I just can't see where this is coming from.Scully was superb in the corner. How often do you see a trainer telling a guy as early as John did that he's not goonna get a decision and now's the time to go for it.He knows better than anyone that Chad has certain problems when it comes to having a champion's mindset and again it's been proved to be the case. If I was a top boxer seeking a trainer,Scully would be on my shortlist. The only problems I saw the other night was that Chad was drained and didn't have the resilience to do anything about it.I thought we were in for a classic after the second round so did Chad's 2nd round performance suggest that Scully gave him the wrong gameplan and he overruled it in his best round of the fight? I doubt it very much. The way Scully tried to inspire him in the late stages was superb and anyone who doesn't respond to that ain't responding to the ghost of Cus D'Amato or anyone else you'd care to place in his corner.
No Dawson just needs to box and let his ****ing hands go, and quit thinking he can just out-athlete everyone. Real **** off to watch sometimes.
Dawson's problem is in between his ears. You can't teach hunger, desire, determination, willingness to dig deep etc. Some have it and some don't.
The whole damn Dawson camp was just plain dumb for making this fight. They obviously are all just a bunch of "yes men" for Dawson, in order to get a buck. Did nobody in the camp ever question this dumb ass notion, whomever came up with it? Unfortunately, Scully is just as culpable as anyone.
**** off you clown.. Since when has a a top fighter challenging another top fighter been considered a bad thing? Dawson said 168 let's do this and these guys made a super fight happen without all the bull****. Dawson made the weight fine, got beaten up and made no excuses. We want the best fighting the best, everything's not always going to be perfect. Be grateful you stupid ****.
:good Boxing fans are sometimes fickle when it comes to losing. Scully and Dawson actually dared to be great and should be commended for putting together a match where, God forbid, the best face the best. They made every concession required and actually actively went after the fight! Chad fell short, but there is no shame in losing to the best. At least he wanted to try and prove himself against the best. There is no shame in that, and I actually thought Scully did a good job trying to fire up Chad to go for the win when it was obvious they were far behind on points. :good
Man you did a good job in the corner and from what I heard you saying I saw no problem with the gameplan. I hope you don't let the haters bother you too much.
Thanks for posting. I do think Chad was better in 2007, but that's on him for creating so much instability in the ring and outside of it. I think you understand him better than anyone else has, but Chad's own limitations have hurt him. But even so, he has had a great career whatever else happens. Hope he's able to regain form and eventually rematch Pascal. That's a winnable fight for him.
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and John Scully are the only two trainers who really had heart for Dawson. If he drops Scully, he'll drop the one guy in his camp who cares and has love for him. Would be ****ing foolish, Scully obviously a good match for him. Back to 75 and start grinding, a Pascal rematch would be awesome for one.
I appreciate all the words of encouragement...I even apprciate the nasty words, too, to a certain degree...sometimes you can learn from the people who hate or criticize you the most. In any event, I was there...I know how things went down before the fight, during the fight, etc. There were mistakes made and they CERTAINLY werent all mine. Its a tough spot for a guy like me to be in...I want to defend myself but I dont want to get in a big war with my friends and teammates either, u know what I mean? But at the end of the day its my career atstake and the truth will help me save that. In terms of the fight, the corner work, etc...Ill say this much: I know this particular fighter and what he was dealing with before the fightm during the fight etc...Ive been a fighter before and Ive been in his exact position physically before...I judged the situation and gave the info and advice I knew he needed at that moment. Basically? I didnt want to give a bunch of smart sounding detailed advice/instruction that I knew would go unheeded in those moments. I wanted to spend that precious time trying to motivate my boxer and bring him out of the funk he was. Detailed advice was NOT going to do that for him, believe me.
