Boxing is all about terrible defense, terrible movement, wild punches and whatever else? You need to know better about what boxing is all about.
Thats what I'm saying, like I said, I respect the guy for having heart and being exciting but having a blood and guts war with Ward shows you what skill level the guy was actually on. Look what happened to him every time he stepped up the comp. He's not elite and never was.
He definitely has heart and I enjoy his fights A LOT but some people need to be realistic here. As you said, he's not even close to the elite level and the Ward fights did infact show what skill level he was on.
i dont think we can argue with those who say yes, there criteria is obviously different then those of us who respect the hall of fame and think you should actually earn the distinction with skill and the ability to beat elite fighters.
Of course, fought everybody he could. Even fights In witch he was a huge underdog. He is the definition of a hearth fighter for years to come. Many classic fights(even excluding the Ward trilogy), in defeat as well as in victory. Two times champs. Bottom line he is a fighter that wont be forgotten anytime soon. So yes its not even debatable that he is an hall of famer.
HOF is not only about skills. Gatti made a significant contribution to the sport of boxing and therefore belongs in the HOF. think of people like Don King, who are a lock for the HOF for their contributions to the sport.
The problem is that McCguigan got in. If you let Barry in, it would be hard to exclude Gatti. Gatti had a better career than Barry, who did nothing special to earn such a distinguished accolade as being inducted into the Boxing HOF. They both don't deserve to make it.
mcguigan dethroned an all-time great in pedroza to become the featherweight champ. he also beat solid contenders in laporte and taylor. gatti has no wins that can touch mcguigan-pedroza with a 10 foot golota.
