I like the idea of a non title rematch with Mundine so Geale can make some decent bucks through the the tv rights like Choc has over the years.Let Geale's camp call the shots and get as much as they can he bloody well deserves it. If this happened I would stipulate if I was Geale not to have Barry Michael commenate he never seems to say anything bad about Choc and this influence's the judges point scoring because they can here his comments. The last comment is intended as a joke.
Whilst trying to find Geale's and Sylvester's purses I came across the numbers from Sylvester v Karmazin. Purse bid was about $600k with it split 75% to Sylvester and 25% to Karmazin. I'd expect Geale's purse wouldn't be too far off that. Mundine doesn't deserve a rematch with Geale but it is the biggest money fight for Geale and would be regarded as legit because of Mundine's no.4 ranking. The only reason I can see for people not wanting the rematch is that they actually believe Mundine might be a chance of winning it and they'd hate to see him take away Geale's belt. Otherwise, why wouldn't anyone want to see Geale shut Mundine's mouth once and for all and make a mint in the process. Geale's still relatively young at 30, so he's still got plenty of time and opportunities after beating Mundine. The $2mil+ figure mentioned by ashley is a bit over the top, but if Geale can at least walk away with something around $1-1.5mil he'd be crazy not to take it. Having said that, Geale's already given Mundine an opportunity (IBO) and Mundine would have to consider himself very lucky to be given another.
Thats right about the Sylvester Karmizan purse bid :good RE: CHOC V GEALE II I did some raw numbers based on the second fight being twice as big as the first Mundine v Geale fight PPV Homes 90,000 @ $50 = $4,500,000 - Main Event %40 = $2,700,000 Pubs and clubs x 700 @ $1,500 = $1,050,000 - Main Event = $600,000 Sponsors = $300,000 Gate x 10,000 @ $100 = $1,000,000 - $300,000 cost = $700,000 $4,300,000......so that leaves $2mill each at 50% split plus $300,000 to throw round Now it could do better than this if the buildup is over 1 year and Geale wins 3 times as does choc. IMO I think these numbers are reasonable now Geale has the world title
Why not put the contest on ice for say 3 years and then have Geale come out and absolutely give the **** a hiding next to none over 12 rounds. Even old and washed up the whole of Australia would gladly pay $49 to see that.
Yeah, that works. Whatever sets Geale up the best in terms of legacy and $$$. But by then Mundine will have regressed to fighting 6 rounders at the local pro-am cards.
