Should Holyfield be stopped from destroying himself?

Perhaps Holyfield would rather take the beatings than give up

    Probably.

But it would not be "giving up" per se, but rather making a wise decision and do something else in his life.

Which is a matter of perspective, and Holyfield doesn't seem to see it that way. Or, maybe he just has too many baby-mommas to take care of.

I voted no, let him decide himself because I think the rules should be the same for everybody. If Evander passes the medical he should be allowed to fight.
There could be a 100+ pound weight difference between these two though and I think there should be some rule against fighters with that big a difference in weight fighting.

Keep in mind that Holyfield is a natural CW, even under the old standards. He made the decision to move-up to HW for the money.

I don't want to bore anybody with statistice but Valuev was about 50% heavier than Holyfield last time out. That's about the same relatively as the difference butween a Cruiser and a Light Welter.
    Doesn't seem right imo.

Fair play to him for having the balls to attempt to fight the top dogs but, I think they should take away his license. At this point in his career he has no business being in the ring with Valuev or any of the top heavys for that matter.

I agree with you somewhat, but I don't think his license should be revoked. Holyfield could have a long and reasonably profitable fairwell tour beating-up high profile club fighters.

It's shocking that this fight is even allowed to happen, but Evander hasn't looked close to beating a decent fighter for over 5 years.

Problem is he has no intention of fighting club fighters. If he is intent on fighting the best at his age someone needs to stop him, because he's not going to stop himself, and personally i don't want see someone as great as Holyfield getting seriously hurt because he didn't know when to stop.

i know every boxer thinks he has one fight left in him, but i am worried that Holyfield is fighting for the sake of his pride and will continue fighting even if he is loosing badly, i just hope he does not get seriously hurt in this fight.

You'd think one of his 197 chidren would say, "Hey Pops...your done, just concentrate on the 300 mark".

It's the fact he sees it as 'giving up' that's caused all this.
I can't imagine anyone at all labelling Holyfield a weak-hearted quitter if he gives it all up, but he seems to think that way and so he keeps carrying on.

Really think a Valuev easy win tonight would be the best thing for the division.
There'd be an, arguably, short-term popularity gain if Holyfield won but long-term it would be a lot worse.

You think it's bad the amount of guys that carry on a decade over their best now?
Just wait and see them all come out of the woodwork if Holyfield wins.

For every Foreman that gets the limelight and held up as the old folks kicking ass, there are dozens of others that end penniless and beaten down, fighting on regardless.

He should be stopped, but he wont be.
