Should Prizefighter become a recognised BBBOC belt?

Its not often I disagree with you TBooze but I think Prizefighter is a decent bit of fun. They're not 'proper' contests but its still enjoyable.

prizefighter is garbage, *******ising the sweet science, its good for journeyman, no hopers and those exposed to have their little fun and get a chance to earn a nice purse and thats the only positive thing about it, but no need to go further.

 

But that is the problem, fighters records are being scarred with these silly contests. If they kept as exhibition matches like they did in the 60s and 70s, then I would have less of a problem with it.

But this sort of thing is boxing for simpletons, in an era where some people cannot concentrate for more than the 11 minutes of the fight...

U-ff boxing for a once great sport.

Fair comment on the point about boxers records and maybe treating them as exhibitions is the way to go.

Good job I'm not the sensitive type, "simpleton" and "unable to concentrate"....it just needs "could try harder" and it would sound like my school report card all over again.

i think its a circus tournament...fairground strongman type stuff....and my main issue is that this farce goes on the pro records.

ie...in their final, ted bami v michael lomax..one had a broken nose and one had stiches in his head BEFORE their fight...they were both ****ed from the previous 2 bouts in the hour and a half before....if i want to see boxers the calibre of lomax and bami i want to see a proper fair fight between them.

whatever next, tag team boxing ?

 

I've never watched it before the last, it is ultimately a bit crap (if fun), but I think the format does offer something to parts of the public who have been deserting boxing for the likes of UFC (or whatever it is called) of late. It's a pity it is not on terrestrial TV though, I think it could possibly reignite a hunger, in the British public, for the sport as a whole - perhaps draw them back in.

 

Sorry, them comments are not aimed at anyone on this board, even those of you like these things. As you have to be more than a casual fan to be posting here regularly, so you will know your boxing.

It is aimed at the potential casual fans, Hearn is trying to attract with these events.

 

No the format is good for crude clubhouse bangers and should not be taken seriously. Prizefighter can be entertaining but nothing more.

 

The 15th tournament SFW one of the best so far. Love it or hate it it is here to stay

 

I agree with the majority, I don't see it as proper boxing. I don't even watch it. I have a peel at the last heavyweight one but, apart from that, I'm not sure what I sat to take in a whole one - not even this week's fantastic line-up.

However, having a BBBoC belt could be a good idea - it could make them money. That can't be bad, surely? Maybe they could invest that into making some fecking rankings!

It could also work toward formally recognising it as a different type of boxing, which I would be fine with. I see it as rugby sevens to the fifteen man code, 20/20 cricket to the Test match or five aside football to eleven blokes on a full pitch. The shorter version is supposedly more exciting but it lacks the substance to really interest me; there isn't the time or space for captivating narratives to develop. But I have no problem with shorter versions of sports I love running parallel as long as they function to bring money and fans into the proper game. If the BBBoC could somehow contribute to capturing that, thus keeping the benefits of the shorter version and maintaining the integrity of the long one, then a belt seems a good idea to me.

I still won't watch it though.

 

I like prize fighter! Why the anger and spit on this? To win that must take everything a fighter has, it also unleashes possible new talent upon us fans. Look at Willie Casey or Gary Buckland, we respect them and know them more thanks to prize fighter. We now can envision new match ups like Sykes vs Buckland 2 etc.

The effort these guys put into it is great, it puts boxing on tv, has better ratings than other fights, we know they will come to fight. This ain't a box office hype job, these are not world beaters or anything, but I do enjoy knowing there are still guys out willing to put it on the line in such a risky way.

The International version is the first leap, next Matchroom will be licensing tournaments overseas
