Should Tony Bellew have taken on Whyte?

Would it be a valid PPV?

Whyte offered him out. Whyte is not a huge HW and he's not as good a boxer as Bellew. He also doesn't hit nearly as hard as Haye.

What do you guys think? Obviously the numbers wouldn't have been as attractive as Haye and if Bellew was to lose to Whyte it would jeopardise the Haye and Parker pay days, but if he is a true fighting man like he says he is, why not take the fight.

Even as a massive Haye fan I would have been pumped to see Bellew-Whyte as a replacement fight.

The pre fight stuff would be hilarious but I believe the fight would be a stinker.

I would still watch it for sure and I think whyte has a decent chance to ko bellew even though he is less skilled as bellew like u said. Whyte is like 17st so he is naturally bigger.

 

Whyte was so sluggish and slow against Helenius. Bellew would have a massive speed advantage. Bellew has said that he is not interested in fighting a HW other than Haye or Parker and views Whyte as far less talented, but if they could compromise on a catchweight I could see him considering the fight.

I would actually bet on Bellew on points here.

 

I agree I think Bellew would beat him on points. I also think Bellew has similar punch
power as Whytes not a big heavyweight puncher. With both fighters hyping it would possible do ok ppv numbers but in my eyes it's not a ppv fight unless another couple of high profile fights of a similar level are on bill.

 

its a great fight! the build up is too good for it to be a last minute replacement plus I think Tony has had a death in the family and this is the main reason its not happening

 

Bellew only wants to fight Haye, purely because Haye is never going to be physically right ever again. Bellew gets beaten badly by anybody in the top 15 who is unimpaired at heavyweight. This mantra about Haye targeting Bellew for the easiest money is actually true in reverse.

I'm glad Haye has dropped out, it prevents Bellew doing another vulture job on him and gloating non stop for eternity about it. Tony is the luckiest fighter I've ever seen in 22 years as a fan of the sport.

 

Tonys doing what a lot of fighters do know and being fairly calculating. The Haye fight is good money making rematch that he's probably now favorite to win - even a loss isn't the end of the world as there is another winnable trilogy fight waiting. Parker is small and not anything special so if that came off he could tell everyone he was a history maker.

Whyte is a big ugly lump and while Tony is the better boxer and Whyte size might just make the difference in an ugly fight. I don't Tony for not taking it as a fight to be honest. Is he even classed as a cruiser weight champion anymore??? Don't remember seeing him stripped but cant see him defending it again.

Bellew's career is nearly over - 2 fights max i reckon then bales out a defeat against Whyte does nothing for him - even a win doesn't do much.

Bellew isn’t in this for legacy, he’s in it for money.

Whyte wouldn’t provide either of the two above like Haye would.

 

It's the sort of thing that would be a PPV but shouldn't in a million years, a boring poor boxing in Whyte against a blown up cruiser in Bellew

This would have been a great replacement fight. Two names well known the casuals and well worth topping a bill.

Bellew needs to cash in now and get some big fights in. There is absolutely no guarantee that Haye turns up in April for the re-scheduled rematch, and at his age he cannot afford to sit around doing nothing for 18 months...especially after the highest profile win of his career.

At the bare minimum Bellend, get a stand in for the re-scheduled date. A live stand in. Dont let yourself get shafted again.

I rate Hayes chances of turning up for the reschedule as poor too.

 

Bellews brother in law has died, he should be allowed to concentrate on his family

 

I seriously doubt Haye will turn up in April, by then it will probably be another injury or something pre-existing that has flared up.

Even if he does managed to turn up he is going to be an even weaker/worse version of himself than the last fight.

Hearn should get the chequebook out and get the Parker fight, what a story that would be if Bellew were to win the HW title. I make that fight 60/40 to Parker in odds.
