Nah nobody doing that but Floyd/Pac back in 2010 would have done 3 million PPV buys though IMO.

If the undercard wasn't there, there would be no way it would surpass 2 million buys. However, with the Matthysse/Garcia undercard and the ridiculous advertising by Showtime, I think it has a chance of surpassing the all-time record. Canelo has a significant following from Mexicans... more than JMM, Morales, etc.

Cool story bro...because that's how these people and these networks got where they are just pissing away money. I'm sure OP knows much more about the business of boxing better than those involved with the business of boxing.

Interest rates are going higher which is having an effect on the housing market, currencies like the rupee are losing a ton of value, jobs that pay a good wage are disappearing through outsourcing and automation, unemployment has not moved down significantly, most people on government assistance ever, etc.

Things might not be way worse now from 2012 but every year we inch closer to implosion.

The stock market is just a Fed induced bubble through cheap money. GDP is also being calculated differently to make it look like there is growth (same thing with the CPI but to make inflation look smaller).

Everything you said in your prior post is correct, it would be nice if more Americans woke up but it will never happen when nearly half the people are takers and the other half are earners.

Well I really hope they don't lose money on this PPV because, if they do, there will never be a stacked card like this again. People complain about cards being thin, then they complain about paying too much. Look guys, boxing promotions cost money and they rely on customers to pay for their product. If you all want to continue seeing deep cards like this, BUY THE PPV...or go to the fight live.

The big draw is from Canelo and the Matthysse Vs. Garcia fight, not Void...........

Pac Vs. Void is a fight everyone wants to see, but Void is afraid.............

I appreciate the point made here but you have to realise the massive population of Mexicans in the US and of course the PPV's bought in Canelos homeland. Cotto was a faded force. Canelo is HUGE and very, very marketable. You guys are just hating if you think this eveent will not suceed.

This bout will do 2.5 mill at least. If it does not I will be very shocked.

Again, if anything it has drastically improved. UK exonomy has grown 0.3 %, twice the expected amount for this quarter.

Floyd was guaranteed $32mn and the fight did over 1mn PPV buys.

So, showtime would have seen $30m minimum from PPV buys after paying the cable companies. Add in a $10m gate and $400k of closed circuit and you have over $40m right there. Plus there'd be money from sponsors and other tie ins.

Can't really see a way this fight would have lost money. Please enlighten me.

Here are some excepts from a 05/10/2013 Fat Dan ESPN article to back me up:

Mayweather's lopsided decision against Robert Guerrero to retain his welterweight title May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will "definitely exceed 1 million buys," Stephen Espinoza, head of Showtime Sports, told ESPN.com Friday.

"We still don't have complete numbers, but we've seen the dish numbers and some of the cable numbers to be comfortable saying we will definitely exceed 1 million buys," Espinoza said Friday. "We can't tell how much it will exceed 1 million, though. That's going to be determined by the reporting [from cable systems] that will come in over the next few weeks."

If the fight did 1 million buys, that would be a gross of at least $60 million, what with the pay-per-view cost of $59.99 in standard definition and $69.99 in high definition, although about half of that money goes to satellite and cable systems.

Mayweather's purse for the fight with Guerrero was $32 million

Espinoza said he's happy with the results of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight, even though he had predicted they would equal the Cotto fight.

"We are absolutely satisfied," Espinoza said. "We are pleased with the result. From a financial perspective, we are completely satisfied. We consider it a success. From a programming and fight fan standpoint, we consider it to be a very successful event.

In figures released Friday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Mayweather-Guerrero generated a gate of $9,922,350 from 14,258 tickets sold. The commission said there were 1,459 complimentary tickets given, and 139 tickets went unsold.

The gate figure puts the fight 16th all time in Nevada history, just behind the $10,393,950 in ticket sales generated by Mayweather's 2007 fight with Ricky Hatton and just in front of the $9.84 million generated by the Shane Mosley-De La Hoya rematch in 2003.

In addition, the Nevada commission said an additional 8,333 tickets were sold for closed-circuit viewing at MGM properties in Las Vegas for an additional $416,650 in revenue.

No it is all talk. They just barely broke even.
I think Showtime would be very Happy if they broke even after all six fights combined.
The main reason for this deal was to raise Showtime boxing over HBO.
Making a profit would just be icing on the cake!
