Maybe Dana is ready to get rid of GSP as he barely ever fights anyway.

Id still be surprised if he allows this unless he wants to cash out. Id be even more surprised if GSP takes it. Old GSP wouldn't have blinked twice.

GSPs stock has fallen a lot over the last few years through inactivity and boring fights plus a lack of any really exciting challengers.

GSP is to small imo, he is a smallish welterweight and if he lost some muscle mass he could probably fight at lightweight.

GSP has been out a year and already has a fight in Nov. Silva-Franklin 3 makes more sense at this point.

  6. I like the idea of silva going down to welter. Perfect challenge for a bored champion with the final stages of his legacy not too far away.

Jones v Silva would never happen, jones is far too big, realistically he's heavyweight territory

  8. GSP has nothing to lose, he's a student to the sport and would take a loss with humility. I doubt it would have too much affect on his standing from a business point of view. And a win against Silva would be legendary for the sport.

GSP is one of the largest welterweights out there. He is around 185 on fight night. Hughes was once considered a large welterweight, and GSP made him look like a lightweight. Alves has long been considered too big for the division, and GSP is only about 5 lbs. lighter than he is.

I feel that a win for Silva wouldn't do much for his legacy as people will just say GSP was too small, which he actually is. I'd like for Silva to fight Weidman could potentially do a lot for his legacy. Saying he beats Weidman and then retires, and Weidman goes on to dominate the vacant division or something along those lines it would do a lot more for Silva's legacy.

There are bigger welterweights then him I think Thiago Alves was near 200 pounds fight night. And GSP is only about 5'10 and is a little bulked up. I think Anderson Silva is close to 215 fight night, and I heard he walks around at 230 pounds.

I have a hard time picturing GSP beating a man that much bigger then him with Silva's skill set. GSP would have to take him down and Silva would be the stronger bigger man. Its hard for guys Silva's size to even take him down.

Anderson needs to fight someone before there can be any talk of a GSP fight, since there will be too much time inbetween.

You people must be out of your ****ing mind if you think that GSP will ever fight Anderson Silva, and that getting destroyed by Anderson Silva does nothing to his legacy.

GSP has big money fights with Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz, he doesn't need to get slaughtered by Silva.

I read that Alves was 190 on fight night, and GSP was 185.

I did not say GSP was Silva's size. Almost all fighters are at, or just above, the weight limit for the division above which they actually fight at. Most guys at 170 are close to 185 on fight night. Most middleweights are 205 come fight night. GSP has stated that if he fought Anderson at 185, it would be on a permanent move to middleweight. He said he would need to add at least 15 lbs of lean muscle mass in order to move up.
