It could go either way. But, I would favor Marciano simply because he didn't rely so heavily on one punch, and seemed to be every bit the inside fighter that Frazier was.
That's fair. Frazier's angles could trouble Rocky. In a sense, he didn't fight as agile as a swarmer/brawler like Frazier. Rocky's footwork was one of his biggest weakness and maybe Frazier could exploit that. But I don't see Rocky as being as crude as saying Oscar or Chuvalo, while all along having more tools. I'm surprised more people (Or Frazier fans) don't use this perspective as a point that may give Frazier some edge. All and all it's tough to call. For me, I just think power and durability will outlast. And I do not buy in the myth that Frazier was equal in stamina. That's just disrespectful to the Rock who trained much more vigorously, longer, and harder than Frazier did.
Marciano for me. Frazier had a great left but Marciano had huge power in both hands, I also feel he had the better chin. This would be one hell of a fight, an absolute war. Frazier to start well but Marciano would wear him down and knock him out late.
The notion the ultimate factor is Marciano's two-fisted attack and overall better durability makes it unanimous for me. After a grueling war, Rocky slowly grinds Frazier down for a 13th round TKO.
You could certainly make a case for both as proven by us and many others. It's a true pick 'em. You know I pick Frazier UD though.:yep
Marciano to win early..... I'd expect this to be a short little war with both fighters hitting the deck but with Marciano's more straight power punches (he's right) to finish Frazier off.
I like Joe who was 18 pounds heavier, just as strong through the legs and trunk, faster and harder to hit. He fought much better opposition. A huge puncher's long shot against Joe, the fast start, is not part of Rocky's arsenal. I think it would be an amazing fight but the longer it went , the better for Joe. He would wear him down and stop him.
I like Rocky in this one......he could knock you out with both hands,and Joes vulnerability to right hands would be his downfall
It might very well start as a surprise for many of us- a messy yet uneventful encounter between two scrappy brawlers and not yet the war everyone's expected. I personally don't see a lot of action happening but if anyone were to take the advantage here it's Frazier. This is carried over into the middle rounds when Joe starts to pick up the pace. It would seem as if he were connecting three or four punches for every one of Marciano's, landing hook after hook while Rocky misses a lot of his own attempts. During this time, Frazier would sting Marciano with the left on multiple occasions. By the late stanzas, Frazier has gotten the better of their torrid exchanges for the most part but appears to have taken on heavy punishment out of nowhere. Marciano's wide volleys aren't as quick or eye-catching as the combinations Frazier put together earlier, but their effect is clear on Frazier's face. Joe's eyes are grotesquely swollen and his lips are cut while Rocky is sporting a busted nose. Almost impossibly, Smokin' Joe begins to wilt or the Rock shift into even higher gear. They still match each other blow for blow but Rocky is obviously the more hurtful hitter. It is at this point that I imagine the Rock catching Joe with an awkward string of punches, prompting a save from the referee. Frazier is dejected but much too spent to protest.
