I stopped reading at this point.

However on the day of the fight Benn had a problem. He was overweight, allegedly, thanks to some champagne at his hotel room

Excuses....Excuses......Chris Eubnak was dealing with the same problem, but Chris Eubank was dealing WITH IT.

    Great read mate.

I bought the dvd of this fight a few days ago as it happens.

Benn, for me, is THE MAN when it comes to the old english mw's/smw's back in the day.

Such a vicious ******* in the ring, really showed no mercy and had the heart of an absolute warrior (see the mcclellan fight).

You could see Benn wanting to have it with Toney in that video by his eyes. Lol

They don't make them like that no more (Benn, Eubank, Toney etc).

staring at each other across the ring right before the bell rang was epic, especially Benn with a look of "am going to **** you up!"

Look at the confidents and composure of Chris Eubank, he had his music switched off and was booed, and came into the ring with the chants of "Niiiiiiiiiigel, Niiiiiiiiigel"

    This is great footage, GREAT.

Loved the title music at the start...:good

That used to be the title music of Midweek Sports Special, brings back memories as a kid staying up late in the early 80's to watch the boxing...:good

Great footage, a Great fight from a Great Era in British Boxing...:deal

Yeah the title music brought back the memories - ITV did a good job in those days.

What happened with Ambrose Mendy after Benn packed in the boxing and what is he doing now?

There was a shine to this fight, and also to the rematch. Both household names, great rivalry. When you look back at this pair and what they achieved in the 1990's, you surely realise that things have gone wrong somewhere down the line. I believe it's TV. When this fight was on ITV, the majority of the UK would have tuned in, 10-20 million people. For the Haye versus Harrison fight, they were lucky if a few hundred thousand watched. (quite lucky really) Too many titles, no big characters and no big free TV nights have reduced interest in the Sport.
