Even if he loses to Mayweather and turns around and win or loses to Cotto - you could never say anything about his heart or the competition he took on.
Agreed on the height and reach disadvantage. Weight disadvantage not so much, Cotto has the body to fill into 154lbs nicely. Now, most importantly- on the defense: If Oscar employes the shoulder roll defense with Cotto he will have the left side of his body battered. He may have caught on to the shoulder roll technique, but has never perfected the short counter right hand that PBF or Toney utilize to avoid getting battered to the body. Not to mention his height advantage, which in this case serves as a disadvantage as there is more of a vertical target. About how hard he hits: He can stop DLH, of that I have no doubt. And you are correct, it would be through accumulation of body work, not any one punch.
I don't know. I can't see Cotto KO'ing Oscar. Oscar is an elite fighter and Cotto had problems with the fighters who are no where near elite status.
do u think Oscar will find any insentive to fight Cotto because he beat Mosley and would maybe see it as getting back at him a bit???
Yes, he is. Even though he is an active fighter, he is still an elite fighter at his best. Maybe not teh Oscar of 10 years ago, but he's still elite IMO.
I personally don't think Cotto can KO oscar, but then i haven't heard that many people say that he can. Maybe you should make a poll, might be interesting.
oh yeah, and to keep the spirit of the thread im going to have to say yes, i think Cotto has the punching power, accuracy, and consistensy to eventually stop Oscar. I happen to think that Floyd did stunn Oscar to the body, and think that Cotto would mix it up nicely. But, i actually think chances are higher of Oscar getting the KO in a fight between them, although id pick Cotto to win the fight, but what i do know is that it would be one heck of a fight.
Mayorga is a good fighter and the win was meaningful. What other fighter was able to beat Forrest twice? At all?
I personaly qualify meaningful wins as fights in which I believe the opponent has a chance at winning. I didn't with Mayorga, I knew he was brought in to make DLH look good. IMO, the Vargas win was his last meaningful win. That fight took place 5 or 6 years ago. And it makes it very difficult to make any assesment on DLH being that he fights once a year.
Filling out your body at 154 is one thing. Taking a punch up there, when you've been wobbled at 140 and 147, is another.
Oscar's win over Sturm would have been somewhat meaningful, but then that was hard to call a real "win".
