Macklin was born in birmingham and raised in a area called solihull just outside of birmingham in a middle class family. Both parents are Irish which entitles him to a Irish passport and be a Irish citizen which he did a very long time ago, he spent a lot of time in Ireland visiting his family through out his whole life and learnt to play hurling there and played at a very competitive level for his family's county there. He learnt to box at small heath amateur boxing club which was founded by a irish man and the gym was and always has been used by the irish community and people of irish decent, it was based in the irish quarter of Birmingham called digbeth. Macklin won the Irish title before he won the British title, he's always classed himself as Irish and is entitled to do so, I myself was born in birmingham to irish parents and class my self as irish aswell as that's how I've been raised, I don't see the big deal and constant bull**** threads about this subject. Does anybody care that Lennox Lewis is not actually British and represented canada at the Olympics but everyone included people in the sport class him as the greatest British heavyweight ever, No they don't so why the full is this such a big issue, get over it ya sausages.

    A. You can thank Lawrence Lustig for Lennox's sudden decision to consider himself British mate, until then he was Canadian all the way.

    B. And then Haroon went and beat all the Team GB fighters in the Commonwealth Games. Now come on, even you will admit that that was hilarious.

    :good

Oh and Guv'nor... Who did Macklin represent as an amateur? ;)

Says that he was planning to stay over there, nothing about nationality.
