The whole scoring of the Small-Webb fight aside, does anyone else think this is a terrible pairing to have in commentary? Lets admit it, its more like Watt and Watt. Big Jim just runs off at the mouth with anything that happens to spring into his head, showing an unnatural bias towards one particular fighter, and Smith just hangs off his testicles for 50% of the time, agreeing with everything he says, keeping his scorecard one or two points away from Jim's to maintain some pride in himself, while the other 50% is spent calling phantom punches that don't land and making out that a decent/poor domestic scrap is actually the Thrilla in Manilla part two. It really is becoming infuriating. Any realistic replacments that you can think of? Even someone who can keep a leech on Watt, while Smith is dragged into the cellar of the Sky Sports building and quickly done away with? (Darke does a good job, but isn't always available)
Anyone would be a step up. Someone who knows boxing would be a start. Would love teddy atlas to do a job over here.
Well, you've got to have 2 commentators that balance together quite well. One analyst and one more general commentator. Woodhall would be a good analyst, he calls the fight extremely well in terms of what each fighter is doing and what he needs to do. I'm not sure who could fill Smith's role. Ideally you want somebody enthusiastic that has good eye sight and can see punches landing. I also think the commentators talk a little TOO much if you ask me. It ain't the radio, the best commentators in sport know when to STFU and let the action speak for itself.
I don't want any replacements really, just give us the HBO feed and I'm happy. If we're honest, Merchant is a ****ing star.
**** off with the calls for ritchie woodhall hes as biased as they come on top of having a teribly infuriatting accent i ian darke with nicky piper
Woodhalls the best blow by blow commentator in the country at the moment, even with that comedy Midlands accent.
