Hagler had a better chin than Ali. No doubt. No 'saved by bell/smelling salts' recovery needed with Marv.

Yeah, too bad, while Hagler was champion in his very first fight of course. :D

Yeah, because it was Hagler gettung floored by fighters he significantly outweighed not Ali. I'm sure if little-middles were flooring Hagler he'd win the 'better pfp' chin contest in your eyes. :hey

He did, but facing a great puncher doesn't mean you've taken a great shot in said fight. Refresh my memory, what 'all time' great punches did Liston land in Fights 1 and 2? We know Williams didn't land anything, he could barely breathe the night he fought Ali- beating 'Big Cat' that nigh,t Ali showed a wide-range of great athletic skill,a tough chin not being one of them- he didn't need it. While, we're at it, what 'all time' great head blows did Foreman land would you say? Whereas, it's obvious he took some mighty blows from Frazier and Shavers for example. So fighting a huge puncher doesn't mean you've taken their very best shots, there is such thing as defence and movement you know.

What were the biggest shots Hagler shrugged off? (Clips a bonus)

Hagler would not be able to take Foreman´s or Shaver´s punches. Ali was. Ali had the better chin. :tong

He was hit very clean by Mugabi, Hart and Hearns and much cleaner than Ali was Liston (and most of the fighters' mentioned in the opeing post). Overall Ali was hit as hard but Hagler was never glassy-eyed, never needed illegals to help him recover. Now I'm sure if he had (and Ali hadn't) it would be no debate, but the Temple of Ali's **** hasn't been smoked for, what, 10 minutes, so obviously needs some significant head.

Clips, not forthcoming. Watch the fights. :good

All banter aside, both Ali and Hagler's chins were cast iron. Hard to state precisely whose was the toughest. Both men absorbed tremendous bombs from some of the hardest hitters of their time.

Nah, I'm lazy. Seen him take some monster shots from Roldan and Hearns, but one can never get enough.

I've seen fighters stopped for the punishment Ali took against Frazier in the first fight.

    Great chin though.

Muhammad was incredible,in the way he got off the floor,in the fifteenth,to finish FOTC on his feet. Who else could have survived that left hook from Joe,in a state of exhaustion before that shot even landed ?

Why has Hagler's chin so great?

    ...

His groin guard was their to protect it!
