So does Hagler really beat Leonard when you put it on mute?

??? I didn't say that, I was talking about in general. Leonard did dominate the early rounds but we also have to fault Hagler for not pressing enough in them. Close fight, could've gone either way. Calm down lol.

I always called it close with one round either way & a draw but i watched it again twice a few months back after coming in from the boozer & i gotta hold me hands up & say that the **** leonard won it hands down or in effect was handed it round by round on a plate by Hagler early on. I'am a Hagler man but this is one fight where he sold his arse for the Leonard $$$$$.

Marv blew it & allowed this chalatan **** back onto the scene but that don't hide the fact for me watching ths fight again after all these years even though i dispise the ******* Leonard won this fight clearly. You can't give rounds away like hagler did in the forlorn hope that you will catch up with Leonard later on. Leonard was gifted the early rounds & fought to pinch & survive the rest. It was over by 9, he matched hagler punch for punch regardless of them being pitter patter dings, they all score & hagler hadly ever was able to land the power shots, to slow & past it more the pity & as we all know thats why Leonard challenged him.

Marvin should have just ran across the ring from the 1st bell & jumped on the ****, even if yer lose the 1st 4 rounds at least he would have exausted Leonard & proberbly had him out of there by the 6th. But NO!!! he chose to ponce about by going othodox in the 1st 4 rounds in the pathetic attempt too to show Leonard that he could outbox him either way so gifting those rounds at no cost to Leonard.

Inferiority complex supreame cost him the fight & i can't forgive him for it. He ****in BLEW IT!!!!!!!! & has only himself to blame in surrendering all advantages from ring size to gloves & making a 12 round instead of 15.

I had it 6-5 Leonard with 1 even. And I'm a Hagler fan so that's tough to admit. One of those fights though where every one of the three results could be feasible

great thread, with balanced and well analyzed posts by most. anyway, for what little my opinion is worth i scored it 1) leonard win by 2 points 2) hagler win by 1 point 3) a draw in my first 3 viewings. every time i watch it now, i can't seem to give hagler enough rounds. i have always given leonard the first four rounds (actually hagler himself gave leonard those rounds on a silver platter) and that's a long, steep hill to climb after

First time i saw it i though Leonard clearly won the fight.. But a couple weeks after hearing so many who felt differently me and my dad decided to watch the tape... Both of us scored it even.. Both our cards read 114-114 where as before i had Leonard winning by 3 or 4 points LOL!

So, you've scored it a round either way and a draw before, but after coming home from the pub you decided Leonard won it hands down ?

Yes, I guess that's the way those Las Vegas judges do it too ! (as Holmes pointed out !)

JJ Guerra must have been coming off a full-blown weekend bender.

:yep best way to watch a fight after 10 pints of becks, it sweeps away the unintentional bias:deal

In all honest i'd put the wrong fight in the dvd & it was the best version from ITV with Reg gutteridge & Jim Watt commentating or not, as very few verballs where spoke & they just let the action speak for it's self. Now in all honesty i was tring to cram a extra large doner kebad down me throut most of the time & as i was chomping away it just dawned on me that what i was watching was something totally different from 20 years ago.

I really had absolutlely no interest in watching this fight as i thought i'd put in Chavez/Taylor 1, anyway my priority was scoff the kebad 1st & in doing that i was pretty much detached from the fight so i just watched it as 2 geezars in the ring & as each round went by i realised i was chomping the kebad slower & slower as i watched in absolute disbalief as that ******* Leonard was totally outfoxing/out-landing & outboxing Hagler.

No if's buts or ****-all's, you know i hate the ****, but obviously in the past i've always been looking for a way for Marv to win & scream robbery. But in all honesty i'am now so far detached from this fight that i can & will give that **** Leonard his absolute prop's & due's. he pissed the fight by an easy 118-112 & thats being generous too one of my all time fav's in Marvin. I watched it a 2nd time the following day & i came to the same score without to much bother.

As i said i'am detached from the fight now & back then i was spitting blood & have been all these years up until 2 months ago & i recommend to anyone here that 10+ pints of becks (german beer with no chemicals) & a kebab is the way to sit & watch a fight that you've always thought contriversial.

Look we all got upset about this fight for more reasons than one. Leonards a chalatan coniving ******* ****, but he won this fight hands down or in effect he was handed the fight on a plate by Hagler more like + the usual useless non- contribution from Marvin's corner & least we forget the cringing victory dance at the end that marv gave us:patsch

Leonard won it big time & i'am not ashamed to have had the balls to totally change my views on this fight by 360* somewhat bit older/wiser/calmer & less immotional about it all now & "i can see clearly now the rain has gone" old jimmy cliff sound from 72 that. they yer go:D

Nope. He doesn't win even if you create an imaginary round and give it to him.

Absolutely. Only fans of American Idol styled primping think Leonard won. A bull**** decision that set boxing in a backwards direction.

I agree with Red Cobra. Leonard had style, Hagler substance. Leonard threw flurries, Hagler landed punches. Sound or no sound, it should've been obvious.

Hagler looked slow with Ray. Hard to know if Ray made him look slow, or if he just slowed down that much.

Both, for me. He struggled putting real pressure on Ray for sustained periods, and Ray was too quick and slick to just be outboxed in standard fashion like that.

Hagler might have had the zip young to do it, but he did not have it at that point in his career.

I've had it 7-5 Leonard every single time I've watched it. Which has gotta be close to 50 times now.

I have watched the fight 6 times and I have Hagler winning every time. Either 6-5 with one round a draw or 7-5 for Hagler. This was also the first fight I scored in my life.
