But it wasn't a catchweight :deal FACT If Chocolatito met Wlad at 168 it wouldn't be a catchweight either :deal
Fight was a joke and you know it ..Why would Floyd have to cheat the scales against a much smaller fighter ?
Signing at 144, how is that a catchweight that benefits mayweather when it is Marquez that has to come up? Mayweather didn't cheat. it would be easier for Marquez to make 144 than 147
deal:deal Just go back to when Winky Wright called him out ..Real brave of Floyd to fight a much smaller guy and had to cheat the scales to it ..Yup stuff of legends right there
I thought about this, Floyd claimed people were contradicting themselves saying he's ducking Pacquiao in 2009 yet they are saying Marquez coming up in weight is unfair but he fought Pacquiao at lightweight, so why do they want him to fight Pacquiao if he'd be coming up in weight too? But Mayweather doesn't realize Pacquiao fought at welterweight that year against Oscar at the end of 2008 then Hatton at light welterweight and Cotto at 145, so he wouldn't have been dragging him up with no fights between like Marquez was dragged up. So he can't justify doing that to Marquez on the basis that people wanted him to fight Pacquiao in 2009
Marquez called Floyd out because Pacquiao would not grant him a 3rd fight. So as to embarass Pacquiao, Marquez called out Mayweather by stating, "I want to fight the best p4p in the world, I want to fight Floyd Mayweather." In negotiation, Marquez' team tried their best to make the fight at a fair weight, but that's very difficult to do when the promotion (GBP) has interest and is hell bent in making Pacquiao vs Mayweather happen. Nacho wanted the match at 142, but had to settle at 144 lbs, a weight Mayweather did not honor. When Nacho was notified that Mayweather would not make the weight, he was extremely disappointed and said, "a very difficult match for Marquez just got that much more difficult." In other words, Nacho himself said beforehand that Marquez' speed wasn't where it should be and he was insinuating that his fighter did'nt have much of a chance against Mayweather. The fighter almost always has the belief in himself no matter the obstacle, but the trainer, especially one with the eye of Nacho, knows all to well the disadvantages.
No. Everybody knows what the catchweight was. Everybody brings it up all the time as if Marquez was having his arm twisted with life or death being his only two options. 6 years later and Mayweather/Marquez is still routinely one of the most mentioned fights in history on this forum. Hagler "draggged" Tommy Hearns up 2 divisions for his first fight at MW in what most consider his career best and career defining victory. It's not the same, obviously, but those who beat the dead horse of this thread title must also view Hagler's victory over Hearns as a No Contest and a cheap move by Hagler... There is just no consistency among the detractors. They roll with whatever suits their argument in the moment.
:nono Hearns had been a JMW titlist and had fought multiple times at MW before fighting Hagler. JMM had never had a fight at JWW or WW before fighting Floyd. Not the same.
Of course it counts. Marquez could've walked. He took the payoff. So, there's no excuses. He was hoping to catch Floyd rusty and got the schooling of his life. Cotto, whom I like, is getting sh!t because, he is running around with that lineal MW title, fighting guys at CWs and avoiding the guy who deserves the opportunity.
