:deal although ward's personality isn't necessarily spellbinding. he doesn't have those superstar qualities out of the ring. I don't see a potential boxing fanbase for such a humble, god-fearing man. I could be wrong though.
I really hope that he looks good. Fighters can shed off 15 pounds of water and look perfectly good. That means he would have to be around 183. If he gets his weight down to 180-183 and dehydrates and re-hydrates himself correctly then there will be no problems with the weight. Wards backyard seems the most reasonable place when you think about the crowd. Dawson hasnt fought at home in ages but Ward has. :deal :deal People thought that Miranda was too soon for Ward. Same thing with Kessler. I love this match up. Two highly skilled athletes are going to showcase their own boxing at it´s finest. For a true boxing fan this will be an enjoyable technical fight.
If Dawson goes and whups Ward's ass in his backyard while weigth drained, He's the biggest G in boxing, and legit P4P #1
It seemed like Dawson wanted this fight just for the love of the game. It's a terrible business decision though.
Has it really been confirmed that this fight is in Oakland? I dont rate Dawson as much as many and feel Ward would beat him fairly comfortably, but Dawson dropping additional weight and the fight in Oakland also (if correct), makes it even more one sided. Remember how Bika was bashing Ward up in the final round and won his share of rounds yet the fight was scored a shut out? Ward has been fortunate, he was able to butt Kessler yet Kessler got warned in Oakland. Outside of Oakland but in America, Ward was floored and looked lucky to me against D Boone. Ward has a good team around him. They know that American based SMWs dont seem to win big world title fights away in Europe and made sure Ward never had that situation to contend with. It looks like they even want home advantage in America against an American
Cant see Dawson doing much to be honest, but yes it would be a good win, but Dawson still has the business with Pascal to sort first
Neither of these guys is popular enough to stage the fight at a big, neutral venue, so the only two options to generate a gate are Oakland or New Haven. From that standpoint, the fight obviously is going to Oakland. I think they wanted Atlantic City, but there's more money for both fighters in a hometown fight. That's also why Spinks/Judah II was staged in St. Louis, Spinks being the champion but unable to draw a crowd anywhere else. Simple boxing economics. It's not a big deal. I'm more concerned about Dawson going to 168. On the other hand, Ward won his 2004 gold at 178, and he has been fine at 168 during his career. If Chad prepares properly, he should be okay. Still think Ward takes it and would rather see it at 175, but I can't blame any of the involved parties.
Bit disappointed that it's in Oakland again but like the above poster says where else could it be to draw a crowd? Massive props to Dawson for taking this at 168 AND in Oakland.
AC- Ward vs Froch was there so they know Ward and Dawson has fought most his fights on the eastcoast Vegas would work to for a fight of this magnitude, LHW champ vs SMW champ....... Oakland is a joke since the fight's already at 168. I Hope Dawson ****s him up and if he deserves a decision and gets robbed I hope Ward fans are man enough to admit the jokeland robbery
Lmao! Because 2,000 people in Dawson's home town don't even know who Dawson is! Bad Chad ain't stupid. He'll make more money going to Oakland.
mayweather fights in november every year they have some latino fighter in a ppv on or around the first part of may for cinco de mayo and ward fights out of oaklan... shocker
He only rehydrated to 187 pounds against Hopkins. Scully said that Dawson came into camp weighing around 180lbs in Hopkins II. Dawson said it himself that making 172lbs was no problem for him, but 168lbs he would change his diet a little bit.
Ward/Froch had like 2k in paid attendance. Dawson can barely draw 4k in CT. A fight in AC would not sell. It's a real roll of the dice in Vegas. More than likely, it doesn't sell there either. The attendance in Oakland will be 10-12 thousand. When you have one guy who can only draw in his hometown, and another guy who can't draw anywhere, isn't it common sense where the fight should be held?
