I don't believe that for a second, unless Jones was referring to being offered a 30-70 split to fight Calslappy in Wales.

Prime Jones would have literally *****-slapped prime Calzaghe. Shame we've got this freak-show coming up as their only meeting in the ring - it should have happened years ago. Calzaghe claims Jones avoided him. Jones went up and fought Ruiz at heavyweight when he initially started at 160. Calzaghe stayed at 168 until this year, when he moved up to 175 to fight a Jones victim from 14 years ago, and should have lost had the judges had a clue how to score a fight - I think we can all see who the ***** who is scared of challenges is :yep

Nah, just one fight in 15 years against a prime p4p top ten man at his own weight would have done.

Even Roy Jones who's resume is widely ridiculed, managed prime Toney, and a young Hopkins.

i've said several times on here that there was no big name over that period at super middle he could have fought.jones and toney had already moved up and left the division when he beat eubank.it's well known that hopkins priced himself out of a fight with calzaghe a few years ago.

For the thread-starter - why do you think every single great British fighter, without exception, travelled to the States to fight? Fitzsimmons, Lennox Lewis, Ted Kid Lewis, Ken Buchanan, Ricky Hatton...the list goes on and on! Why? Why do you think they spent their best years fighting in the States?

But it's easy to get priced out when you are a "Euro-bum". You know what I mean? Nobody in the States at that time knew who Calzaghe was. You know? So there was literally no media accountability. Literally none! If Calzaghe had been in the US showcasing his skills against the same fighters he beat on UK soil, Hopkins would not have been able to behave that way. He wouldn't.

Look at Hatton. He went to America. Fought some guys who were not huge names who probably could have been procured for home defences. What happens? He gets a collosal purse for fighting the very best in the world, gives himself a chance at true All-Time Greatness.

Calzaghe, on the other hand, waits at home and eventually gets a call from an old man nobody really wants to take on and beats him in an ugly fight. His rewared? Another old man.

Calzaghe has made money. But he doesn't have the legacy. The reason for this is he showed a lack of ambition concerning his legacy.

Unlike Buchanan, Welsh, Loi, Morales, Pacqiauo, Duran, none of whom were American and all of whom fought there at least once during their absolute best years.

All of whom secured massive fights, all of whom are legends.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, which is fair enough, but at the same time why isnt it ok to defend your belt and clean up a division, so many people slate joe saying he ducked this he ducked that, but at the end of the day he fought who he had to, beat them all, a fight isnt made just one way you know.

The reason there is so much pish talked about Joe on the forum is that his talent far outstrips his achievments. So you get people, absolutely accurately in one respect, calling him great, and another bunch, absolutley accurate in another respect, denying his greatness.

This one can never be sorted now. Not unless Joe fights on for two or three years and beats some very good fighters in their primes.

I have sympathy with both sides. I think he is an excellent fighter. But people who try to bestow upon him blamelessness for the lack of great fighters on his resume are fooling themselves. Joe is accountable. He should have gone to America. He would have made huge fights with top names if he had done that.

And for those about to dispute this, look at the example provided by every other great fighter who ever went to America.
