I don't like to discriminate against the disabled .... BUT ... fighters whose knees give out within 1 round of world championship boxing should get to the back of the queue.

I'm sure there's a lot of old guys out there who reckon they could give Vitali a tough fight, "if only I didn't have these bad knees !".

Look, if "Fan Man" had fallen on his head it would be different. OR if he was the champion with proven track record at top level.
But, no, he's just a guy who got knocked down, injured and sent home the first time he fought at the top level.
He also happens to be habitually overweight.

He did try to get up, his knee gave way, I've had a similar injury, effectively you have 1 leg and in agony even to put any weight on the bad knee

I had a friend who was hit by a car and he was still hobbling around, his movement wasn't Ali-esque but he was vertical regardless.

    True story.

I'm starting to think fights should only be given the go ahead after a fighter passes a certain bodyfat percentage.

I can't blame him. Look what was in store for him !
A thorough thrashing. One hell of a highlight reel footage contribution though.

Ali was quite reluctant and downbeat in his dressing room too, but for opposite reasons. He knew Williams had nothing left, and knew it was going to be one-sided. Apparently he decided there he was going to go for an early kill and not prolong Cleveland's misery.

I agree with your assessment of Ingo. And I don't think Williams sucked. But I do think Ingo was just a cut above, as we have been through ad naseum.

Slobby Solis is a lazy blob.

To properly earn a rematch with VK after such a humiliating defeat, he should have to beat 2 fighters ranked in the WBC top 10.

Vitali-Solis should be ruled a No Contest.

Cant be ruled an NC, because the replay shows a punch landed.

Surely that could knock him down! isn't enough to erase a referee's verdict that the punch started everything.

It's different if there is clear evidence a headbutt was the culprit, or something. But Vitali lands a right before Solis goes down and his knee goes to ****, the order of which, nobody will care.

I speak this out of experience. I've tried to get a similar NC enacted for one of my fighters a few years back. They laughed me out of the hearing.

I 100% agree..he's done nothing to deserve an "immediate rematch"..and to prove himself to be more than just another undeserving pretender, he should indeed fight another contender..by what basis does he deem himself special?

The big thing is Mr Suliaman could think he needs and deserves an immediate rematch. That single factor outweighs every other factor added up. He did have the guy ranked as the #1 contender and anyone with that kind of discretion and certainly use the same judgement to order a rematch.

Solis got wobbled and that was hardly a #1 Vitali right hand. And Vitali was moving in to fire off that straight right when he hit the canvas and he's probably fortunate he did not catch his balance and not eat that 2nd shot.
So he did not react well to getting clipped and there were 11 rounds to go against the busiest heavy out there.

Pretty much a moot point though. Solis now has exactly what has plagued the division in recent times; a legitimate reason to not do any roadwork. Now we have a 30 year old overweight fighter with at least 1 bad knee and just how is he going to get in optimal physical condition when he could not do it before in his life? He needed to be in the 225 range to be in Klitschko type shape and we'll be fortunate to see him work hard to make 255.

My take is that we've seen the best of Solis. Future versions will see a heavier guy with less mobility. Plus, a guy suffering the stigma of a koby1 defeat in a heavyweight title bout. History has not been kind to those guys.

My thoughts are Solis is acting stupid to keep his name in the press. Solis was hurt clearly hurt from a punch in round 1 which caused him to lose balance. The loss of balance jolted his knee, then he fell. Solis is at least 9 months away from getting back into the ring. Vitali may fight Liakhovich soon to stay busy, then gets either Haye or Adamek next.

If Solis can come back and beat a ranked contender, then a re-match is possible.

I don't think Solis deserves an immediate rematch. I don't think he deserves all this scorn, either.

As said, you try and get up with an exploded knee. He actually tried.

It's kind of hard to promote a rematch when he gave the fans 175 seconds of boxing the first time round.. he needs to beat a top guy to deserve another shot.

Also, if he was trim and showed motivation then he'd have a much better case.
