I wonder sometimes what Marciano himself would say during some of the arguments.

Ducking your number 1 and number 2 contenders while defending your title against dying men, light heavyweights and South American hype jobs is a big advantage to keeping your title

Now you see why people on this forum get so upset about Dempsey being so absurdly over hyped with how little he accomplished

Hype makes $ though. At that time I don't think the standard of Joe Louis or the mold had been established. Do you think Greb would have brought the same gate ? I don't know that era as well. I never blame a guy for taking $1 million

From what I have read about him he came across as a modest unassuming man.I've no doubt he thought he could beat anybody but he wasn't given to boasting like some of these pricks we have masquerading as fighters today .Rocky believed in the old adage, Do It ,Don't Talk About It. Judging by the two biographies I've read , he seems to have been a fine man.

I think picking Marciano over Foreman or Liston is less ridiculous than picking Foreman or Liston over Anthony Joshua. Neither of these guys ever fought a good opponent who was 240+ yet people seem convinced the size difference isn't an issue despite all the recent failures by small heavyweights

Some points I have learnt about dempsey

He would beat Lennox, due to two B Level heavyweights knocking Lennox out with 1 punch and Dempsey “breaking willard cast iron jaw”

He would outbox and beat prime Foreman using his feet because prime Dempsey was the smartest boxer who ever lived and always put his ego aside when it came to toe to toe brawls

He would beat Ali because Frazier beat Ali and Dempsey was better than Frazier in every way.

He would beat prime Bowe because he dominated giants willard and Fulton

He would knock out prime Tyson because if he could take Sharkey and firpos best punch, he could take a prime Tyson’s.

He would beat Klitschko brothers because Willard fought just like Vitali and Wlad was tailor made for man who weighed no bigger than 187lb in his prime.

Dempsey didn’t need to fight Harry Wills because ray arcel said wills would have gotten destroyed by Dempsey

Dempsey didn’t need to fight Harry Greb because it’s better to fight a 185lb opponents who lost to Greb several times than it is to fight Greb because he only weighed 165lb and the press would say it’s unfair!

Dempsey’s losses to 37 year old fireman Flynn and 5’8 Willie Meehan “don’t count against him”

    Incredible stuff really.!

Is someone attempting to make a point? I can hear a faint whine in the background ,rather like a mosquito.
It seems this thread is about to be hijacked by A N Other, time to go.

Well your true colors always come out in these Marciano threads. A wolf in sheeps clothing. I am disappointed in you. I expected better

Rocky loved to make $ and have security. Didn't trust banks like many of our Greatest Generation he never got over the Great Depression. That rainy day.

You could make $ in Vaudeville on stage without risking the title. The 20s was a unique time.

I think Joshua is a good fighter and could make a legacy just gotta see how it plays out. Did he just duck Wilder?
Foreman and Liston were sluggers who broke bones. I don't believe 240lbs is gonna protect him from getting concussed. It would be an interesting fight. Sluggers who have holes in their game. Anything can happen.

Dempsey would knockout Joshua because of what he did to Fulton and Willard

Yes he was notoriously tight with a buck, but given the way he earned his $$$ I think I can forgive him.
    Great Champion

Wilders biggest purse to date is the $2.5m he got for Ortiz he put14,000 arses on seats in the 19thousand capacity Barclays Centre.Wilder generally gets about $1M or just under. He was offered $15m to fight AJ which is several $M more than Parker the other title holder got.He wants no part of AJ.AJ will now fight Povetkin no 3 and Wilder will fight Breazeale whom AJ beat up in his 17th fight.Wilder is a fraud.
