His footwork sucks, as does his defense. He cant properly throw a right hand straight to save his life, he cant fight on the inside, doesnt punch to the body, and is often off balance. He is NOT technically skilled.

Technically sound fighters keep good balance, positioning, and throw every punch in the book with correct technique. THATS technical skill. BOXING is the art of hitting, and not getting hit. Taylor gets hit plenty.

So once again I say... NO Taylor is not technically skilled. The only skill he has is the jab. Other than that he's sloppy.

I been sitting on the fence with this one but I got Andre Dirrell to win by tko/ko

I think he's too fast for froch and has more pop than taylor.
Will be having some money on that at 4/1.

David Reid was an olympic medalist too, how skilled was he?

Read my last post. Taylor is very technically FLAWED. Those who cant see that, dont really understand the sport like they should.

Come off it. Taylor, Pavlik and Sturm all ducked him, hell he even tried making a fight with winky, and if winky won't fight you ya know something is wrong. He called out the champions for years, he warned them he would move up if they didnt fight him, and he did.

He will not finish last. Kessler might be the toughest fight for him but all the others are in danger till the final bell.

Sorry, but Sauerland intentionally low balled Winky, and that is common knowledge.

AA tried to make a fight with Pavlik? Bull****! How much did AA offer Pav to fight in Germany? How much did AA ask for to fight in AC? How much did HBO, or any other network, offer for the fight? The answers to those questions do not exist because Abraham NEVER entered into serious negotiations.

Abraham ducked Wright and Zuniga so he get fight Elvin Ayala and LuJaun Simon. He's a worse cherry picker than PBF!

I doubt that either Taylor or Froch will even make the semis

Your comments are definately on the harsh side but nevertheless highlight Taylor's weaknesses which become more apparent when he's under pressure or is unable to dictate the pace of the fight.

If Taylor has worked on how to weather an opponent's onslaught other than using offense or amateur evasive tactics, then he'll give any fighter in the tourney an extremely stiff test.

Best fighters know how to take it - without incurring significant damage - and give it whilst administering maximum damage. I'd personally like him to win against Abraham and stop the rot.

I agree with you on all points. Let's add his extraordinary athletic skills, which allow him to compete at this level. Against Abraham, he has to focus on his defense and his balance, in order not to receive a big one. If he stays calm, he'll win easily. Against Kessler, it would be another story. Even against Ward, which is technically skilled, he would have problems.

ANYONE can win the whole tourney as there's no heavy underdog in R1. Kessler is the most favored in his 1st fight, but if anyone is close to Calzaghe's slick style and speed, it's Ward.

Froch is favored but Dirrell brings very good speed, superb athletic abilities, and different styles possibly giving a lot of problems to Froch.

And Taylor is the most live underdog, he's much bigger than Abraham, faster, technically more sound not facing a high volume pressure fighter, and given his odds, it's a smart betters' opportunity. You can never count out AA as his style often decieves fans and boxers as 'nothing special', he definitely has underrated skills, but he's at a size and style disadvantage here.

So Taylor needed just 5% improvement tp beat Pavlik and 14 seconds to beat Froch? But he didn't beat them. Before the Pavlik rematch he said he only lost because he wasn't in shape. Now he says he only lost to Froch because he got tired and that he fixed the problem. Taylor has the theoretical ability to outbox/outspeed anyone in the tournament but not the mental strength, stamina and defensive skills to maximize his potential.

Taylor in his last seven fights has three losses, one draw, two unconvincing wins and one good win over Lacy, who is weaker than anyone in the tournament. Now he is going to win five consecutive fights against excellent competition, including a rematch against a guy who beat him?

That's the great Taylor myth - he's really not. He's fast and punches correctly, but his balance is awful, he drops his right when he jabs, he draws it back like an arrow before he throws it, he moves his left out of position after throwing a 1-2 and, as he gets tired, the form gets even worse.

He's got good fundamentals but some bad habits that cause him problems. And he got a tiny little engine.

Being athletic isnt a skill, its a talent. Taylor is fairly athletic, but he's not a extraordinary athlete. Those are guys like Roy, Mosley, Floyd, and Pacman. Dirrell is much more athletic than Taylor.
