Sonnen comments on Wanderlei/Leben, is he back?

For ****s sake - Sonnen has like 5-8 KO's TOPS from his 35 odd fights - He is not a puncher and not a heavy handed guy. He is a world class **** stirrer and a better than average wrestler, but let's not go comparing his power to Rampage - Who by the way was Wanderleigh's ***** TWICE by knee KO's to Silva before their UFC fight.

He got knocked out after a brutal weight cut - I don't particularly care to see him fight anymore if his punch resistance is that far gone, but that heavy Leben left clearly landed on the bak of Silva's head at the base of the skull and neck which would **** up Sonnen or any other fighter who's punch resistance is fine.

It's a pretty definative statement to say you only have to touch Wandy and he's done considering Bisping and Franklin couldn't do it in his previous two fight.

If its over its over, but damn...

Bisping makes Calzaghe look like Shavers and Franklin only really hit him with jabs and body kicks and one of the jabs put him on his ass. Leben hit him with a ****ing arm punch, a terrible looking piece of work, and it didn't hit the back but rather the side of his head, which is not a spot known for making dudes go jello-legged like Silva did. His chin is absolutely disgraceful.

So now that my prediction credentials have been proven in a way that you find legitimate, let me say once more that the very idea that Wanderlei vs Sonnen at this point would be close or even competitive in any way is utterly ridiculous. You should re-think. :deal

 

To be fair though dude it is a marathon and not a sprint. No one will call ever fight correct.

The guys that finish near the top of the league have to know their **** or they wouldn't be there :deal

Have a look at what I said about this fight months ago:

Every fighter that has knocked Silva out has a proven record of knock out power. Chael Sonnen does not. Chael Sonnen has a record of losing to every Brazilian he has faced.

Wanderlei does not have a track record of looking bad against wrestlers. He's 2-0 against Sakuraba, 2-1 against Rampage, and 1-0 against Fujita, and 1-1 against Henderson. Wanderlei was not outwrestled in any of those losing affairs, he was ko'd by power punchers.

You bring up Arona, who Wanderlei is 1-1 against. Arona is BJJ stylist, is a solid 200lber, was capable of holding Fedor down, and is a better fighter than Sonnen.

You have in no way made a solid case for Sonnen being a sure win against Wanderlei.

Your current standing has you with 48pts, a 6-10 record, with 6ko's.

That guy admits he likes to pull rank by using his predictor league record, therefore it's only to be expected that people will counter such a smug tactic. Pop yours is 37.5% win and the same for knock outs but from only 16 fights...

I do have a case for saying Sonnen looked at the absolute top of his game in his most recent fight against probably the p4p best fighter in the sport.

I do have a case for saying Wanderlei looked absolutely shot to **** with no ****ing punch resistance left whatsoever in his most recent fight against a middleweight who's not even considered a contender.

Arona held a better version of Wandy to the mat for the duration of a fight, showing it can be done.

Sonnen held Anderson Silva to the mat for the vast majority of a fight, showing he can do this to great Brazilian fighters.

Wandy has declined badly since then. Anderson Silva has better BJJ than Wandy. Anderson Silva has much better punch resistance than Wandy.


All in all, this is not rocket science. You are calling this fight even worse than you called the UFC132 main card. :-(

 

I'm not on the forum that much, and drop in and drop out all the time. I don't dedicate myself to excellence in this prediction league, look at how long I've been on the forum and how few times I've participated. That proves nothing. And anyway, even if I had a 0% win rate, I'd still be right saying that anyone who thinks Wandy vs Sonnen would be competitive right now has lost touch with reality in a major way. :nut

 

I think Wandy is more than capable of submitting Sonnen. Unfortunately the guy still likes to brawl and we dont really see his Ju Jitsu anymore and even in his PRIDE hayday he used it mainly to get stall and get stood up.

I dont think, well I know Sonnen wont be able to shut down Wandy via top control like Tito did.

 

Anyway, I don't really have the time or interest to get into a big thing about it with you. Keep on doing well in your prediction league so you can keep waving it about like a golden ticket whenever someone says you've made a bum call, I hope all the effort is worth it. I actually think you're a really good MMA poster and like reading your posts, just think you've called this one horribly, horrendously wrong. I think Sonnen is a real piece of ****, and I think Wanderlei is one of the elite fighters in MMA history (hence why I had him 6th OAT in my top 10 list), but if they fought right now it wouldn't even be a fight. I just don't think that because Leben can knock Wanderlei out means that Wanderlei is a cake walk for Sonnen. It's a different Style match-up. Sonnen is a good wrestler, but isn't a big puncher. Marquardt has a history of being handled by wrestlers. Wanderlei does not have that history. I would not be surprised to see Sonnen blanket Wanderlei, and win a decision. I would be surprised to see him stop him.
