Yeah, that's about how long it would take for Liston to beat Foreman, not the other way around. Besides, Liston's a far greater fighter then Lyle and therefore shouldn't even be compared to Lyle as a fighter. Liston was classes higher. Fact.:hey:yep:good
Liston holds the edge, but the key might be Foreman's underrated jab. I do believe Foreman is a bit overrated, but his jab was underrated.
Both destroyed swarmers. Liston beat Floyd Patterson twice, Foreman beat Joe Frazier twice. Frazier was better H2H with an iron chin and was completely blown out of the water. Foreman on the night he fought Ali was at his peak, in my honest opinion, and I think he'd knock Liston out.
I slightly favour George in this one. It could last till the later rounds,as both of them have a solid set of whiskers to go with their frightening power. Foreman just seems to possess a little more of the chill factor.
I'm with you on that. Before the first Clay fight, the media portrayed Liston as some unstoppable beast, and Clay had no chance. they may have believed that at the time. But we can look back now and and make a more informed opinion on the matter. I think Foreman would pummel him to a pulp.
Because he lost to the greatest heavyweight of all time? Foreman lost to an Ali ten years older and slower.
The 1964 Cassius Clay was the furthest thing from being the greatest heavyweight of all time. He was a skittish, powderpuff punching, insecure blownup lightheavy... a couple years later was a completely different story.
Yeah seemed a bit over the top...I'm sure Ali improved a bit between 64 and 67 just through the experience of defending his title, but he looked just about as good as he ever did against Liston.
Why? He possesses one of the most dominant mid and long range weapons ever (his jab, which Foreman showed he could be hit with) and was one of the best at adapting to his opponents.
What fighter haven't you called overrated? If there ever was a fighter that you felt was being glorified too much, or needed to be knocked a notch down you would surely swoop from the heavens to proclaim such injustices for all of ESB classic to here. The question is, what fighter (HW) don't you think is overrated at all? I'm sure there was a time where you knocked every fighter down a peg. I'd say that you've been most consistent to preserve Tyson and Wlad's legacy as of late... maybe Lewis. Who else?
