Sonny Liston vs. Vitali Klitschko

For me , Liston is weak minded, I dont care who disagrees or agrees with me, folded tent twice against the only modern skilled Heavyweight he met and folded tent again on life when he administered himself the golden shot.

 

That modern skilled heavyweight he ran into just so happens to be regarded as the " greatest heavyweight of all time" by most reasonable people's standards, and when Sonny was passed it besides.. As for his death I don't think it was ever determined accurately if it was a suicide, accidental overdose or murder..

 

A lot of posters are bringing their own bias/preconceptions/racial prejudices. A liston/Vit is very interesting. I dont think Sonny can KO Klit or visa versa so Klitscho on points, better workrate, movement the key against a great jab and big cross, but in no way confident, a great match-up.

 

Was Vitali weak minded when he quit against Byrd?
Liston didn't mentally fold against Williams who broke his nose .He didn't mentally fold against Marshall who broke his jaw. Vitali quit cold with a damaged shoulder in a fight he was winning against one of the lightest hittters among the heavies in the last 30 years. Some very selective statements being made here.:think

 

A rotatory cuff injury is hard to fight with in fairness. Also I think Vitali is ****ytically cool enough to retire rather than risk serious long term trauma, just my opinion. And I agree, Liston was no quitter. A fight to be judged on boxing merits I think.

Otherwise i think Klitschko was better because Liston is the most overrated
athlete ever and he wasn't impressive at all.2 good wins against a skinny,fragile
glass-chinned Patterson who wasn't unbeaten.

I hate these Vitali klitschko fangirl excuses.He's another overrated fighter.
The Patterson type fragile,unathletic fighter Byrd beat him and klitschko showed nearly zero power.

the worst version overweight 37 nearly 38 years old Lewis beat V.K.
and humilated his face.
His chin is very overrated he had only one tough fight and dangerous
opponent and went only 6 rounds. (The skinny Mavrovic went 12 full
rounds with a much more better,younger Lennox.Mavrovic was tough
klitschko with his humiliated face was pathetic.
(Honorable mention a Pelé Reid-vitali kick-boxing fight where klitschko showed a glass-chin)

All in all Liston's best winsatterson by kos
V.Klitschko's best wins:38 years old fat bum Sanders and the 38 years old Briggs.

Let's assume Liston's reach really was 84"...... V. Klitschko is 7" taller! Klitschko fought tall, he used his height, reach, and weight to his advantage. Liston will have to punch up, way up... this will negate that so-called reach advantage a good bit and it will take a little something off of those punches.

As for power? Well, even if Liston did punch harder... V. Klitschko had a great chin. Vitali was never down and never behind on points at the end of a fight. Point? Vitali could take Liston's best punches. A better question is would Liston be able to take Vitali's best punches?

I'll take Klitschko by late round stoppage.

Liston beat Williams x2, KO3 and KO2 (one of the most overrated contenders ever), Folley KO3 (a good but small and not so durable HW), Machen W12 (on Folley's level but more durable), and Patterson x2, KO1 x2 (Hall of Famer but little more than a LHW). He stopped Clark and Wepner late in his career. He was beat by a very small HW, Marty Marshall (Liston suffered a broken jaw), but he also beat Marshall x2 (once by KO). He had two very close wins over Johnny Summerlin (early in his career). He was stopped by Ali x2 and Martin (late in his career).

Klitschko beat Herbie Hide KO2, Obed Sullivan KO9, Orlin Norris KO1, Vaughn Bean KO11, Larry Donald KO10, Kirk Johnson KO2, Corrie Sanders KO8, Sam Peter KO8,Chris Arreola KO10, Shannon Briggs W12, Tomasz Adamek KO10, Derrick Chisora W12, and Manuel Charr KO4 among others. He was stopped by Byrd and Lewis but did quite well prior to the stoppages.

vvmm this is the wrong place but you are utterly clueless about the events of 1941-45 on the Eastern Front......Vietnam, lol, they had more casualties in one battle in the east or one bombing raid over Dresden then the entire American KIA in Vietnam from start to finish.

Dresden wasn't a battle.Plus the Dresden bombing is nothing to do with the
"red army" and this proves you don't know who attacked Dresden.Germany soldiers weren't in Dresden because it wasn't a battle.

Just saying i was in Dresden and i saw some results of the bombing.

I never said the Vietnam war was in the Second World War.
I said it was a brutal war.

Including his fight with Hide in 1999 Vitali has 4 knockouts
since winning a title:
The Hide one1999
Orlin Norris in 2001, he quit after being knocked down by a jab.
Albert Sosnowski 2010 ,who admitted he could have continued.
Odlanier Solis 2011, he was stopped after damaging his knee falling from a punch.
Four kos in 23 fights one was a quit job, one an injury.

Who did he put down for a ten count?
Vitali beat on Shannon Briggs all night and couldn't floor him . He hit the coming forward Dereck Chisora all night and never decked him either.
Lennox Lewis stopped a prime Briggs , flooring him 3 times.
David Haye stopped Chisora ,flooring him twice.
Vitali's power is way overated he does not carry the thunder of Liston and he isn't as good a boxer.

Liston took Williams and De John's shots , he has no problem taking Vitali's
Liston beats this Ukrainian.
