Cut to picture of a baseball player snapping a bat over his knee. But seriously, sometimes the excuses are pretty darn good, and people do get screwed pretty regular. My favorite is the 1972 Olympic basketball team. The USA beats the Russians in the finals by one point and start celebrating like mad, before the officials declare that there's been a time keeping error and put three seconds back on the clock. The Russians throw a long pass and win by one point at the buzzer. The documentary where I learned about this interviewed the players who would not accept their silver medals afterwards. Then they cut to a museum curator who keeps the medals and calls the players up every year to see if they want them. The last part had me and my roommate howling. I don't get why some people won't accept any excuse no matter how valid. I feel like at the Nov. 20th 1982 University of California-Stanford game Stanford had a legitimate gripe when the final play was interrupted by a marching band walking onto the field.
I believe the Russians failed on the first "restart" of the end of that game and were thus given a THIRD try. In fact, they were going to keep replaying it until the USSR won. Stanford has no excuse. It was their own band. That's something they have to take up with the band director. Watch it in slow-mo (as if you're a Pac fan) ... and you'll see that at the time the band comes onto the field the guy with the ball has an unimpeded path to the end zone with no defender in position to do anything about it. The band -- and the idea that it interfered -- actually takes away from the five-lateral play Cal pulled off. EDIT: I wish Stanford had won that game. If they won, they were coming to Birmingham (an hour away) to play in the bowl game there and I would have gotten to see John Elway play. That loss knocked them out of bowl contention.
that us/soviet basketball game was one of the biggest travesties in Olympic History. I'm glad they didn't accept the Silver medals. They weren't being sore losers - they didn't legally lose.
Frazier = more slugger than finesse boxer.. Frazier wan't as athletic as a finesse boxer, he was about power and strength, obviously at 205- 210 he was just too damn small to compete with a much bigger man in Foreman..
The powers that be should have ordered an immediate rematch, 1 week later 2 weeks tops after that Stanford fiasco, and why in the hell couldn't wait until the game was OFFICIALLY OVER, before coming on the field:huh I didn't start watching the Olympics until 1976, (too young for 72) only 5, those were the cold war days, BESIDES WE GOT REVENGE IN 1980:yep... I can see why PRESIDENT CARTER, boycotted Russia the 1980 olympics, because of the assholes at the USSR..:deal 1976 the best year for the Americans in the Olmpics:deal, with 84 number 2...
Of the greats has to be JC Chavez. After the Randall fights and the dlh fight. I was quite surprised. Butler takes the cake for biggest moron who slugged grant after the bell. Tillery for pulling Bowes trunks down and pulling him over the ropes into the crowd.
