I cannot fathom how you'd have Hearns going 15. I'd pick Marvin and Lopez to stop Hearns at 175, let alone Spinks. His chin is too shaky and his stamina is too Sus for Spinks' collosal power. One Jinx that muh'****a is out. Cold.

Tommy is in a weird space. Underrated at MW and below, but overrated above it.

He's not really rated at all at 175. Not that I noticed.

As was said, theres certain light heavys in history he matches up well with. He'd probably beat a guy like Willie Pastrano, for example.

But Spinks and Foster would be the worst 175 match ups for him. Moore would be horrible for him also.

Yeah, that jab and move type who he can style on without looking out for some ferocious punch is what he could deal with. I imagine he's capable of dealing with Conteh or Dawson too.

The aggressive fighters with power and a means to land are God awful. Imagine if Jones landed his hook which ended the MG rematch on Hearns... sickening. Someone like Qawi would mince him too.

As a huge Hearns fan, it's hard to think about.

Hearns is a dangerous style matchup for Roy, and I'm the biggest Jones fan here.

But ultimately though, yeah Hearns wont handle Roy's power.

Tommy might have some success against Michael early, but he gets coldcocked in the 8th round.

Well, Murray Sutherland did go the distance with Spinks once and Hearns went 10 with Sutherland. Even though Hearns would give Spinks more counterpunching possibilities than Murray did.

I think that this match between Michael Spinks and Thomas The Hitman Hearns would end by round 4, Michael would box Hearns on even terms, then the Spinks Jinx strikes Tommy's jaw, and Hearns hits the canvas as he did when Marvelous Marvin Hagler put him down and out in 1985.I think the problem is that Hearns, although he can carry the weight with his body frame, is moving up to Michael's natural weight.

Natural weight is exactly why this is a bad matchup. Power is power but durability and natural functional strength and chin aren't things you can really improve on just by eating a few steaks. Despite being 6 ft with freakishly long arms, Hearns simply isn't biologically fit to operate at 175--at least not with guys who are naturally that size and have good power. No matter how fast and skilled it is, an overweight 200 pound leopard isn't beating a starving 200 pound lion.

No way, Hearns out-boxed Benitez, P4P Spinks was never in at that level apart from Tyson at heavyqweight, Hearns jab was quite effective against Hill but far better at welter and much better than Spinks jab, Tommy was amazingly skilled until he got to middleweight.

Not a good fight for Hearns. I suspect he won’t last the distance

This is interesting, but Michael would have demo'd Thomas. I love Hearns, but Michael was a true light heavyweight through and through, with a light heavy punch and really good boxing skills. Guys like him, Archie, and Bob Foster were up there with the ATGs of the division imo.

Spinks in 4 at the latest.

Yow, Foster would have had him in half the time.

Some still don't realise what an immense puncher Michael Spinks was.

His power would not have been far behind Bob Foster, in fact his right hand would have been harder. Spinks coming in at 42 on the 100 punchers list by The ring was a disgrace. I can only imply that they held his heavyweight reign against him because at 175 he was incredible. He had GENUINE one punch power. Briscoe, Monzon, Duran and numerous others above him did not hit as hard.

Spinks could be extremely lazy in there and was seldom in a hurry to do much of anything early. Sometimes it took him getting belted a bit to wake him up and motivate him to get someone out of there. If he was paid big bonuses for getting guys out of there early his record would look quite a bit different i would hazard to guess.

Tommy would probably have his moments early given Spinks often started slow but in the big scheme of things this is a mismatch and Tommy is probably my favorite fighter. Certainly Hearns is good enough to box with him but every second danger will be lurking ominously. Unlike Hill Spinks will not pushed toward caution after taking a hard punch or two and at some point he is going to land something big. Spinks is able to break good chins or better at 175 and at some point, maybe around the 4th he would put Tommy away.

yea, even if tommy did his thing, throwing and landing nice long shots, and with power, and was boxing beautifly, and was beating the hell out of spinks, he wouldn't be able to keep that up for 15. no way! he would get tired and sloppy, spinks wouldn't. he'd KO tommy in that event. Only chance for tommy is spinks starts slow and tommy jumps on him and knocks him out. I doubt that scenario though
