Greatest filmed light heavyweight ? No footage of Archie Moore or Ezzard Charles exists ? What a statement.

Am I missing something here?Wasn't Jones put on his keister by Lou Del Valle before Roy was looking vulnerable?Michael Spinks may have been a slow starter, but he never lost at 175,and I don't believe he was off his feet until Tyson.Mike Spinks was an accomplished boxer with a herky-jerky,unorthodox style.Spinks would've stopped Roy around 8 or 9.Roy would have had as many problems with Michael's unorthodoxy as Michael would have with Roy's speed, and once that right hand lands, good night Roy.

    sorry i got you now.

    Not that I agree with your prediction entirely - I was 40:60 Jones:Spinks, 20% a draw.

    lol my maths.

Perhaps you can start by naming an all time top twenty five light heavyweight Jones ever defeated ... I don't think Jones beat any better collection of light heavyweights than Virgil Hill did ... Jones would ever have fought at 175 in the late 70' - early 80's ... ever.

Here Dude, reread my quote which was,

he lacks a name of great significance in his win column like Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Billy Conn, John Henry Lewis, etc.... But frankly I think his long term dominance and decisive performances make up for some of that.

If Jones had known when to hang'em up (Right after Ruiz), nobody would even pose the question.

Do you believe that the Jones that fought Griffin(either fight, lol),Virgil Hill or DelValle would have beaten prime Michael Spinks?I always respect your opinions because you're a class poster, but do you really believe that?

I've always felt Spinks would have the awkward timing and power to offset Jones' phenomenal reflexes and speed. He'd catch him at some point, and although at his best Roy was hard to hit and NOT the 'glass jawed' fighter we know today, he was not infallible in the chin department (although this is effectively behind the ear, exactly the kinda' weird angles Spinks would land at with his varied left, let alone the 'Spinks Jinx').

I wouldn't really care to argue either way though, Jones was the man who got me into boxing as a wee bairn.

Jones would win. He could have defeated Lennox Lewis if he really wanted to.
