he's an advisor/manager. gbp is the promoter for most of his fighters. they are with gbp on a fight by fight basis.

What will happen is that Oscar Dela Hoya and Goldenboy will join forces with Top Rank.

Al Haymon will take all his fighters and form a new company with Richard Schaeffer.

Haymon's been on a signing spree with fighters lately, effectively he's become a fighter's union (without the smaller named fighters receiving the benefits). I think he's reached his cap at what he can pull out of Showtime from a single fighter, so he's taking the Wallmart approach and going for volume.

At HBO, Haymon doesn't have his yes-men in place anymore with Greenburg and Davis. HBO is moving forward with some fiscal responsibility, no more Andre Berto's. Ward was shot down for some easy fights at his $2mill salary. And now according to Kim, Stevenson's fight with Fonfara is on the line unless he agrees to face Kovalev (a big F-U to Haymon).

Expect Big Al to keep signing all sorts of fighters to make up for his big purse loss and to eventually use this as leverage against HBO/Showtime. Thing is, from the fighters perspective, why sign with Haymon if you have to pay him a premium and he's not really getting you anymore money? It's going to become like fighters who were signing with Don King thinking it was going to get them ahead, when in reality it hurt many careers.

    Great post.

Eventually once Mayweather retires or gets beat and loses his PPV power, Haymon will lose half of his negotiating power with Showtime.

The extra he may make for his fighter probably only covers the money he takes as his cut any way so in effect the fighter isn't making that much extra.

If the best Haymon can come up with is have idiots like the Watsons be there to motivate a fighter then he's not exactly cutting edge.

The Watson's, are they those dudes always standing behind the ring announcer so they can be seen on tv? The father and the two goofy looking sons?

Yeah that's them. Can you imagine this old fool and his idiot sons talking their bull**** to you as you're about to fight, i'd rather knock them out to shut them up then the fighter i'm facing.

This video reveals the kind of bs they say to a fighter, it's just laughable how stupid it is.

Oscar and Bob Arum studiously avoided Azumah Nelson at Junior Lightweight. He lost to Tito, Quartey and Whittaker in my opinion as well as both Mosley fights. He is and was a very good fighter I just never felt he was as great as the image makers wanted to potray him as.

I'd rather see two promotions and networks compete with each other. This way you could fight cards clearly aimed at beating the other promotion and network. Without competition you won't get meaningful events.
