WBA rules contain no provision for a standing 8 count as far as I can see. If the referee had counted on the basis that the ropes were the only thing keeping Perdomo up then that would not have been a standing 8 count, that would have been him ruling a knock down (ie boxer would have been knocked down apart from the ropes).

Fair enough, cheers for clearing it up, in that case I'm even more convinced the ref was right to stop the fight when he did.

Guys (Cubex and all the others who replied to Axe's hate posts - Axe is a known Kessler hater.

Axe = Kessler hater. Just so that everyone knows not to take this guy seriously.

referee was definitely in too early to stop this fight - and afterwards we can see that perdomo was well out of it (it seemed to me like he was nodding to the referee that he was okay to continue while he still was being held up by the referee, but certainly wasn't all there).

a couple of seconds more and the ref would have stepped in anyway so it's really a moot point.

What? That's not what I'm saying. :huh

Kessler dispenses of his #1 mandatory in four rounds, and suddenly he's rusty and is going to get eaten up by the baying pack of wolves that is the Super Six. To me, that's bull****: if Kessler's was a rusty performance, how does AA getting pushed to the edge by Lujuan Simon of all people fare? That's not hating; it's just pointing out the fact that others in the Six have done far worse recently against far lesser opposition.

I scored the first round for Kessler. Second round for Perdomo. Third round was a 10-8 for Kessler due to the KD, and of course the 4th was the end at a TKO.

I think it just LOOKED like the ref stepped in too quickly, after seeing some of the replays and seeing the vacancy in Perdomo's eyes I was more convinced that it was a good stoppage, and even more so seeing him wobble over to his corner and collapse like a marathon runner.

Kessler looked rusty, but it may have been mental because his only defeat came at the hands of an unconventional southpaw in Joe Calzaghe. When I watched the 2nd round, and saw Kessler getting landed on it was shades of the Calzaghe fight, and I was a bit worried.

As Kessler and Dirrell when interviewed said, Kessler looked a bit rusty, but he has a great 1-2 and easily dominated the fight once he got the timing down and started coming forward instead of boxing.

Okay, academic dead horse though it may be - forget the stoppage debate, the people saying the knockdown was bull****? :rofl How blatantly can you hate?

Kessler threw a punch, Gusmyr dipped his body down, the punch hit mostly shoulder and the tip of some cranium; the force of the punch (not a push, not a trip, not a bodyslam nor DDT) resulted in Perdomo sitting on his keister.

How is there ANY controversy there? How in any way shape or form is that anything other than a knockdown? :patsch :nut

    you must be joking....

the third round 'knockdown' might be a technical knockdown in your book but you're talking baby**** if you think it was legitmiate.

why do you think its 'hate' to call a knockdown that wasn't`?

forget the baby**** inbetween - a professional fighter never deserves t be called on that just because you sit on the other side of your computer and think its okay.....he works too hard to live in your world.

What are you talking about? :huh

I'm saying the knockdown was a knockdown, because it was caused by a punch that was thrown by a boxer. What point are you making? What "professional fighter" amd I "calling baby**** on"? And what does that even mean?

    Are you drunk?

AA did not get "pushed to the edge" by Simon, what fight were you watching:huh? At the most Simon won 4 rounds against an obviously unmotivated AA, at least on my card. Simon was there to fight, I RESPECT THAT MAN! He was not there to collect a paycheck. Secondly, it is a known fact AA was having a hard time making 160. Kessler has been fighting at 168 all his life and makes it quite easily. I still don't understand your comparison. I thought he looked good for someone coming off a long layoff, and I am not one that says he will be eaten by the rest of the super six. I am just questioning why you have to ALWAYS compare AA SO negatively, you don't have to like the guy, but he is making a huge step up if you ask me with this tournament.
