Mayweather doesn't take one step backwords while throwing a punch to knock out Hatton.

Same punch but where does anyone mention it being a "check hook"? They didn't upload YouTube videos and named them "check hook" back then.

Floyd Mayweather probably did not come up with the term check hook himself. He may very well have picked it up somewhere in the gym. But nobody on the boxing forums was ever talking about a "check hook" before Mayweather did that to Hatton.

Now I say Mayweather knocked out Hatton backing up and some boxing snob goes: "That's incorrect that was a check hook" Whatever dude.

To add to that that "check hook" gets parts of it's impact for the very reason the guy who is throwing it is backing up because are two force vectors at play. One from the side, it being a hook, and one going forward since the guy who is on the receiving and is partly walking into that shot.

So however you slicing it it's still a punch being thrown backing up. And part of it's damage is still from the very fact that the guy is walking into it.

Who cares what it is called? They understood the concept which was the important part. The onus is on you to prove that they didn't know the name "check hook". There isn't any proof that Joe Louis ate spaghetti once in his life but more than likely he did.

So the world of boxing knowledge is dictated by what a boxing forum says? Do you even know what percent of people on here actually box or boxed formally in the past? Less than 1% I'm willing to bet. What is inside the heads of internet troll couch potatoes is of no reliance to boxing. Boxing forums have been around for a very small portion compared to boxing in general.

I never said "That's incorrect that was a check hook" that he knocked Hatton out with. I specifically said he didn't knock Hatton out with that punch. Do you realize that Hatton wasn't knocked out by the check left hook that Mayweather threw? From your posts it seems you are under the impression that Hatton was knocked out after he ran into the ring post. Watch the fight.

It may not have knocked him out but it did him in.

Right Mayweather had to explain what it was. None of you boxing snobs knew what it was until he did it and then went on camera to explain what he just did. You learned it from Floyd man lol.

Do you have proof that no boxing fans on any boxing forum on the internet knew what a check hook was until Mayweather "enlightened" us as you say.

I have been around for a while. I know. Stop pretending. People already believed SRR was the P4P greatest fighter ever even when Muhammed Ali was coming up. SRR P4P #1 and Joe Louis best Heavyweight ever. Since that time it has never been questioned. If you do it's blasphemy like you are cursing in church. Since those days you got like 70 years more of boxing and great fighters. But people keep holding on to these old dogmas. People used to believe the earth was flat as well. But then luckily sometimes there are people that ask questions.
