Steve was on local radio in Ireland this morning with Buncey, he explained the fight and its rationale and whilst that must be taken with a pinch of salt, it allayed some fears. Its apparently a once, off, a quasi exhibition match against Jones and only Jones. He said its not a comeback and hes not chasing young world champions or even a fight after this. He stated that his health was the most important thing in his life and that this is some sort of score settling.
Flintoff fulfilled all the criteria needed to be granted a licence by the BBBofC (unfortunately), I'm not sure that Collins does. I saw on Twitter that Steve had been granted a licence by the BUI, but its only a rumour. I agree BTW, its got **** all to do with the BBBofC what Collins does
I would be surprised if its a British license, I don't think the BBBofC would license Collins, I don't think he would apply and I don't think he has ever had a British license. It could be an Irish license or somewhere in Eastern Europe or the Middle East.

Roy jones is probably still in the top 1000 professional boxers in the world. Collins last fought in 1999? Roy will look like the Roy of old against Collins, he's still a quick athlete, he's only shot in terms of other top professional boxers and compared to the level he was at 14 years ago. Roy looked a million dollars against Lacy and he will against Collins, it'll be bad for Collins and it'll be bad for Roy as this fight will fool him into thinking he's still got it.

I read a post like this and on the one hand I can appreciate that the points you make should be correct. But..err... they're just not, are they. How's it a 'farce'? I think we should reserve the word 'farce' for things like fighters dropping out of fights and cards get pulled, or maybe shitty opposition against a good champion being talked out of proper proportion. Two old timers deciding to fight isn't a 'farce' even if you disagree with it, but I'd agree it is not 'meaningful' in the least. At least in the sense that most afficionados think of 'meaningful fights'. Likewise I couldn't agree it is 'bad for boxing'. Why is it? People will have an opinion on the fight and watch it. Call it 'Audley Harrison' syndrome if you like, but casual fans (or lapsed fans) know these names, will read about the fight, might actually watch it. Fight fans will enjoy the build up and everyone will have some take on it. If the fight is made I suspect a TV company will definitely pick it up. why? Well...because they will. People will want to watch it. If the fight is made I reckon whatever venue is picked in the UK will sell out. See above comments about 'Audley Harrison syndrome'. It may not get made anyway, but I'm failing to see the problem it if does. I hope RJJ spuds Collins.
