I dunno if Steward is right for him. Cotto needs to pressure Pac and we know Steward doesn't train fighters to apply pressure. Cotto transformed into primarily a jabber that won't mix it up will not win him this fight.

Is this the same Steward who said that "Pac would beat Cotto?"

I don't think Cotto and Steward would be a good fit. Cotto refuses to clinch, Steward believes in the clinch as a wise defensive move.
Steward is a good tactician though. Maybe he can help with the game plans

This would make things very interesting.... Manny Steward (vs) Freddie Roach... Pacman (vs) Cotto... A double-header in 1 night....:rasta

Cotto definately needs a proper trainer, if just for tactical advice alone. But I don't think Steward would be the right one for him. Whilst Steward could definately help him with strategic clinching and perfecting Cotto's damaging jab, Cotto is a pressure fighter and a hooker. Steward brings the best out of tall rangy fighters where he can teach them to control distance with their timing and height. Cotto needs a tactical trainer like a Nacho or a Nazim that will focus on his pressure, body attack and countering.

In the long run i agree but there are plenty of things Cotto can learn from Stewart that will make him a better fighter in the future.
Stewart is a wise trainer i would love for him to not change Cotto but help him improve in the areas he is susceptible to I.E uppercut's and to perfect Cotto's jab make that thing a laser i would also like to see Cotto improve his inside clinching game God knows it would have helped him alot against Margo Mosley proved that.

Steward: You gotta throw punches. If you throw punches you can beat this man. You got three minutes man!

    Cotto: Ok boss.

Stewart also went on FNF Fights and said that Ricky Hatton was too big, too strong and too much for Manny Pacquiao. So, keep that in mind.

Great. If Pac wins he beats Stewie as well. Another victory for Roach.

ES may be kissing Cotto's ass to get the job and the chance at glory to say he trained the guy that KO'd Pac at his peak. If he loses he has a built in excuse that he only just started with Cotto and can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Do I favor Pac? Hard to say. tough fight to call.

Mark my words Manny Pacquiao will have his cup up to his chest the night of the fight if not a full body protector
