You are wrong as Spence has arguably the best fundamentals in the game today. Bud may have a bit more variety though I think some decline has started to set in. Spence’s size won’t have been an issue for Duran or Leonard.
I think Ray had a bit of complex with his choir boy looks which is why he inexplicably decided to go mano o mano with possibly the most macho fighter of all time and very nearly pulled it off. That one fight alone showed the greatness and the courage of the man. Tommy Hearns was all wrong for Ray but Ray still won, people forget how much of a human wrecking machine Tommy was considered to be at the time. Having only one fight in five years he then decided to fight 2 weights above his normal weight class against possibly the best middleweight of all time - who else would have the balls to do that? I really like Crawford as a fighter but come on if you want to be a great you have to earn it and there is no question that Sugar Ray Leonard did - Bud has some way to go.
Spence is just a decent boxer that bullies fighters with his size, he`d get destroyed at 154 and is nowherre near as skilled as Loma.
“I just don’t rate Ray, I don’t care that he beat those fighters” There’s no point in continuing after that. Your credibility has gone.
He used his reach and foot movement to beat the smaller Duran who out-classsed in their first bout, he wouldn`t have a reach advantage over Bud and would have to land a lot more shots than he did in the "no mas" fight. Hearns was out-boxing Leonard until he got hurt, his long jab bothered Ray and Bud would have a 2 inch reach advantage over Ray.
Yes, but I still think Ray had a problem with long jabs, he had a problem with Lalonde`s jab and couldn`t out-jab Hagler as Ray didn`t land many jabs while beating Hagler, having said that both those fighters had a longer reach than Bud`s.
