Yeah, I've always wondered why people say there's no footage of prime (147) Robinson. There's quite a bit.
Not a proper video of a full fight though. I'd love to see him vs Gavillan, and his fights against LaMotta
Seeing this, and other such things on Robinson, what stands out to me is that he's not really a boxer. He's a fighter. He punches extremely hard, he's incredibly fast, no one ever threw better combinations, and he was pugnacious and combative and had good feet. That doesn't make one a boxer, per se. I certainly don't mean that as a criticism. It's just an observation. He's no less great because of it.
double left hook to the body like that makes you a sho' nuff boxer.. the best ever boxer.. roy jones a little behind
Sugar Ray Robinson was the best boxer-puncher that ever laced them..period.There is nobody I'd give a favourite shot against him from 147-175 on his best day..It's not that he could swing from boxing to brawling like most boxer-punchers... he combined them beautifully from the first bell to the end..he was hard-wired that way...and looked beautifull doing it too. He was not perfect by any means as a fighter...but he was the most complete there ever was.
