In his prime in '81 when Mosley was 9, then granted, but prime for prime Mosley knocks him out. Mosley has faster feet and hands, more power, better timing, better bodywork, better reactions, Pryor has the much more open defence and Mosley is the bigger man

    I'm quite confident of it.

I disagree with almost all of that. Better timing? Pryor had some of the best natural timing I've ever seen. More open defense, better reactions? Neither were defensive savants, but Pryor was almost Chang-esque in his natural reaction timing, both offensively and defensively. Of course with that kind of offensive style you're going to get hit, and the hits will be more pronounced when your footwork is as technically bad as Pryor's (technically speaking, not necessarily in terms of efficiency). Shane had very little reflexive speed or defense. Almost all of his speed was in his hands.

And I'm pretty sure you're just trolling when you say Mosley had faster feet.

Well, that was a mistake. Now comes the inevitable bullet point presentation of PowerPuncher's rebuttals.

It's easy to look at the Mosley of the last 10 years and say these things but he was a different boxer before that. I suggest going back and looking at Shane's LW and early WW days, his reactions back then and timing and speed of his first punch were very good. I almost looks like Roy Jones at times and you can see why he got away with the Sugar monickor. His body punching back then really broke his opponents

Pryor's defence is a disgrace at times, he walks forward with his chin so high in the air it looks as if he's trying to see something far away into the horizon, I'd even call it Hattonesque although it isn't nearly that bad as he uses angles and head movement on the way in.

    I'm good.

They broke his second and third rate opponents, that much is true. I wasn't arguing who the better body puncher was, anyway. That was one of the things I happened to agree with. He was never a better body puncher than Arguello, though, and Pryor withstood that assault, so I'm sure he'd have no problem dealing with Mosley's firepower.

Mosley was simply never a good defensive fighter. He was the take-one-to-give-a-better-one type. His offensive reactions were good, defensively not so much.

This is what I'm talking about. Pryor was a technical disgrace at times, period, but it didn't detract from his efficiency because his natural tools were so damn good.

Someone like Ike Williams may've been able to take this out of him, but Shane Mosley? I don't think so.

Well the bodyshots broke Oscar up at 147 and 154 too an extent, 140 and down they should hurt smaller men more so. Mosley would land more to the body than Arguello and he'd land more upstairs with his speed, I don't think a body attack alone breaks Pryor, just part of the package that could beat him

We'll have to agree to disagree on Mosley's defensive reactions in his pomp, while no Whitaker I think they were good. We'll probably agree to disagree on who had a better package as a whole, although I can see Mosley's speed of hand/foot seeing him get off many more clean shots than Arguello

Mosley has always been an athletically gifted slugger.

Not anymore than Pacquaio's an 'athletically gifted slugger', Mosley works off the jab, keeps range, can use lateral movement, moves out after throwing combinations, works the body and head, uses a radar defence. Technically he has his weaknesses and there is no doubt that he is reliant on his athleticism but 'athletically gifted slugger' is a tad simplistic

I'd say he is a pretty simplistic fighter PP.

    He's in straight lines.

Mosley is a slugger, he always has been, he can counter punch though, he's good at smashing opponents and using his physical attributes rather than skill to get out of the way, i.e he uses speed (or he did in his prime anyway). If you're looking at the big picture and assessing his career as a whole then you have to say he was someone who liked to punch. He doesn't have a great defence but Arguello isn't stopping him imo, not at all. Mosley reached his peak at 147, even though he was a physical monster at 135. These two are gunna be able to tee off on one another like there's no tomorrow, it would be an epic fight. Nobody is going to be embarrassed. I'm on the fence

He played it far too safe against Holiday, IMO. Golden Johnson was probably his best win there. While he was no Hall of Famer, he was a game and talented contender who Mosley was able to demonstrate all of his (now forgotten) dimensions against.
