I wish I could find video of Ottke beating Michael Moorer, Tarver or Juan Carlos Gomez. Those are impressive names. Ottke had over 300 wins as an amauter while fighting the best international competition. I guess I can't blame him for maximizing his money fighting almost exclusively in Germany as a pro.

Joey Archer had a similar style to Ottke and the same problem with getting over with fight fans because of it. He was just as good as Giardello, Tiger, Fullmer etc. But was not a TV friendly guy to watch because he was pure out boxer. I just have an appreciation for well schooled fighters. Don't get me wrong, I still love to watch a good brawl like Gonzalez vs Letterlough but I also appreciate watching a guy like Hopkins completely shut out great fighters like Tito, Tarver and Pavlik with pure skill instead of athleticism. Think about that for a second. 30 plus rounds against those guys and Hopkins hardly lost a round. Ottke certainly had a different style than Hopkins but he definitely had a similar mindset of taking away an opponent's strength as opposed to trying to destroy/overwhelm an opponent with his own power or speed.

Yeah, pretty familiar with Archer. Very good fighter.

From what I can recall, those guys were pretty decorated as amateurs anyway, as well as successful pros. I'm not overly familiar with his competition as a pro. I've seen about 10 G.Johnson fights, and about three from both Brewer and Reid. I've seen Tate too, but he was wayyyy past it then.

Juan Carlos Gomez was a pretty stellar amateur. Those Cubans identify kids as athletes at a young age and make them eat, sleep and **** boxing. Gomez vs Tarver was on youtube not long ago and it was a good scrap.

I also do get his point about styles but i think it’s a bit ovverblown.Because Jones and Griffin were unorthodox fighters, Ottke on the other hand is a very conventional fighter with worse hand speed than James. And also the reality is James could do both lead ( see for example Mc Callum, Johnson, Littles fights) and counter in an effective although I recognize that he preferred when a guy comes right at him. I do not see Ottke has the skills to win this fight although he would give Toney some trouble stylistically and go the distance, probably lose by a around 3-4 points in case the fight is judged fairly.
