Ottke was a fighter who relied on hometown decisions. If nobody wants to say it, I am gonna say it

I think plenty are saying it in this very thread.

The Reid fight was simply disgusting.
Can’t remember which round but Reid decked Ottke with a clean knockdown and the referee declared it a slip, then a few seconds later deducts Reid a point for an alleged headbutt when it was Ottke who had been boring in all night.
So a round which should have been 10-8 to Reid ended up all square on the cards or possibly 10-9 to Ottke a 2 or 3 point turnaround.
According to Ral Hal Gooly Gooly Reid was the dirty fighter and only won a couple of rounds.
At one point he was actually being warned by the referee for hitting Ottke!

I rewatched the Larsen fight. This was one was every bit as worse a robbery than the Reid fight. Ottke, the king of gifts.

I doubt Ottke would have been a champion outside Germany.

It was broadcast live on the beeb, I remember watching it at my mate's house with his Dad and all of us going mental at what was happening. Me saying that if it went to points that Reid had no chance, and so it was. Ir remember the 'no knockdown' and point deduction for Reid clear as day. Jim Neilly was commentating, one of the more easy going commentators you're likely to listen to, and I remember him calling telling Reid to try and ignore the 'moustachioed buffoon' between him and Ottke, it was the high point of the fight. Saying that the only way Reid was walking away with a shot of winning was with a sub-machine gun.

The Reid-Ottke fight was like a WWE handicap match that you’d see as a kid.

In Ottke's defense regarding the performance vs Robin Reid, Sven was already 36, had gone 12 rounds 15 times as a pro, on top of a whopping 308 amatuer bouts. Only two of his pro fights were early stoppages.

    "That's a lot of mileage."

Obviously the referring of John L Sullivan is deserved criticism.

...The scoring of Ottke-Toney would obviously depend on where the bout took place. They both won more than one controversial decision in IBF title fights.

'The Phantom' would be spamming flurries then circling away every round...or god forbid relentlessly clinching.

    Perfect or awful stylistic matchup?

"I'd rather not talk about it."

The referee did not benefit Reid.

    Stop being silly.

    Okay.

So how about looking from the other perspective?

    I’m asking you.

You have listed the times in the fight where you think that the referee favoured Reid.

That’s fine. But then why don’t you list the times in the fight where you think that the referee favoured Ottke too.

It will be interesting to read.
