both pwilly and pav are gonna find eachother. so the question is who can handle who's offense since this won't be a defensive struggle. i think pav can handle anything williams throws since pav has seen harder shots than anything williams will throw. williams on the other hand hasnt been in the ring w/ anyone who throws as hard as pav. williams may be up when pav finds him but he will find him.

power should be 10-9 hearns. hagler had underrated power. he was knocking out all the top middleweight contenders.

experience should be even or at worst, 10-9 hearns. hagler was an experienced middleweight champion. size should also be 10-9 hearns. hagler was a middleweight his whole career while hearns was moving up in weight. chin should be 10-4 or 10-5. you have one of the greatest chin's in boxing history against hearns. corner should be closer as well.

I'm not buying the work rate disparity. Pavlik threw 97 punches while Miranda threw 94 back at him in the first round of their fight. Williams has NEVER been that deep in the trenches. He will not throw 100 punches a round against Pavlik. If he tries, this will be a very short fight.

 

Power: Hagler knocked people out by wearing them down, breaking their heart and then finishing them when they had nothing left. That's certainly the sign of a great knockout artist, but he didn't have the raw, one-punch KO power of Hearns, who could just hit someone with one right hand and get rid of them right away. I think 10-8 (which isn't that wide after all) is fair.

Experience: In terms of big fights, Hearns had a much better record. Leonard, Duran, Cuevas and Benitez clearly supersede Minter and Antuofermo.

Size: Since there was also an entry for "strength", I interpreted size not to mean bulk but to mean height and reach. On that count, Hearns obviously wins. I gave Hagler an equivalent edge in strength, so I'm hardly being biased.

I'll concede that you could give Hagler a more lopsided edge in chin (though Hearns still managed to rock him). But the point remains that these statistical breakdowns are all but meaningless.
