Funny - where did all the Brits go who normally would be predicting a loss for the "glass jawed Polish hype job" ? Basile isn't that bad, he is #64 on boxrec. He is the best opponent Szpilka has faced so far.
Boxrec horribly over-rates the South American HWs. They apply the same standards to them as they do to South Americans in the lower divisions. They rate Fabio Moli at #36 in the world (above the likes of Luis Ortiz and Bryant Jennings), despite the fact that he's 43 and has been sparked out by shot Marcelo Dominguez, Matt Skelton and even feather-fisted Taras Bidenko. Szpilka KO1 :yep
It took Szpilka four rounds? atsch :verysad Every single shot hurt Basile. :!: Note how he stayed down, could have beaten the count at like three. Bum.
Szpilka is billed as a puncher, so it's unimpressive that he needed four rounds to dispose of Basile, who is chinny. Clearly Basile was not fighting to win; that Spilka labored overtime to get the job done doesn't look good. Also worrisome is that Spilka's head is sticking straight up, ready to be hit. Basile reached him a few times. Better, harder hitting fighters than Basile might have torn Spilka's head off yesterday. The upside to Spilka is that he has fast hands and he puts his punches together well.
Basile is very bad. He's not even a respectable gatekeeper, or a tough clubfighter sort. Most of Basile's wins have come against very inexperienced South Americans with losing records. He is known to fight many of these guys multiple times. Even then, Basile is sometimes KO'd by this opposition. Pay no attention to Boxrec ratings; their rankings are determined by a flakey computer formula that cannot possibly incorporate non-numerical realities in its results.
