Was Stiverne considered a bum? You do realize that Stiverne's resume only had one semi-decent name on it and that was Arreola, who was beaten by Adamek, whom in turn was beaten by Szpilka? It can be argued that Szpilka's and Stiverne's resumes are totally comparable. This is a totally acceptable for a fight considered a warm-up before Fury or Povetkin.
Oh for the good old days when all heavyweight fighters got in shape. Today the so called champs just fight fat slobs. You could go into any bar in west Texas & find 10 guys who's take guys like DeMori out
Yeah, but there are fighters out there (like Wlad or Adamek) who refuse this kind of thing. Of course, the promoters love to see this, so they don't discourage it. But it's not as though its scripted on where/when/how this is supposed to happen....the only parameter is try not to throw punches that can sink the fight due to injury. So knowing that this is a pr stunt doesn't really bring anything new to the conversation at all. In fact, these guys are just doing their job of selling the fight.
