So far there have only been a small handful of fighters hailing from the birthplace of Genghis Khan (from which he launched the largest contiguous empire in earth's history) to attain significant international recognition. Dugarbaataryn Lkhagva - better known in the West as "Lakva Sim" - blazed a trail in the nineties and early aughts. Then came a couple of guys who based themselves in the UK and became crowd favorites there: Choi "The Warrior" Tseveenpurev and Shinebayar Sukhbaatar (aka "Shinny Bayaar") - the former fringe world class at his peak, and the latter British domestic level. Since them, nearly a generation went by until the recent emergence of Tögstsogt "King Tug" Nyambayar as potentially a world class player. His true value will be determined in a few weeks as he defends his IBO featherweight title against Gary Russell, Jr.

...but King Tug, unlike Sim, might not find himself all by his lonesome as he reps the blue, red & gold on the global scene. Byambatsogt, who seems to idolize PBF and does indeed sport a nice check hook patterned after the American's - is thankfully more like the young super feather & lightweight version of FMJ. He's a fast, aggressive counter-puncher and sure-footed ring general who throws in combination. He already looks seasoned and comfortably settled into an effective pro style and just this morning fought in his sophomore match.

He is said to be the best amateur Mongolia has produced in a long time - perhaps even better than Nyambayar. He made his professional debut in October in the Dynamite KO tournament semi-finals and soundly defeated Japanese gatekeeper Shusaku Fujinaka to earn himself a berth in today's finals. He apparently schooled Vladimir Argeny "Destino Japan" Báez Taveras, which is SUPER impressive at such an early stage of development. Báez is a Dominican banger a few rungs down the ladder from contender status. I was asleep, but our very own @Boxing Prospect helpfully provided a RBR for it. Video will hopefully turn up before too long.

In the meantime, here's Byambatsogft vs. Fujinaka:

    Byambatsogt vs. Báez:

(first match on the video, so no fast-forwarding required!)

edit: never mind, realized later this was a different Báez fight that was only recently uploaded. Will paste in the link here if a video does pop up anywhere.

I haven't watched the Báez fight yet but against Fujinaka his style didn't look fan-unfriendly per se as you said in the RBR. Then again, I don't find Mayweather himself unpleasant to watch (even the latter day welter version really) so I guess that's down to subjective taste.

I'm not a fan of Floyd's style...to me it's seemed like Byambatsogt kinda...fights within himself...a bit...too much... (there's a Korean teenager who does the same)..it's like...you KNOW there's the extra gear he can move into and wow us...but he decides "nah, I'm gonna jab, move, move, jab. It's not unpleasant, but certainly not...fan friendly (round 5 of the Baez fight saw he DOES have that extra gear... but really kept it in his back pocket)...

Tögöldör Byambatsogt vs. Shusaku Fujinaka, 5 rounds @ *welterweight

(*sort of, this is a 65kg tourney, which is approximately 143⅓ lbs)

    Round 1

Byambatsogt is jabbing in, then stops on a dime to leap backward and sweeps a hook to parry the Fujinaka jab. Axing rights from Byambatsogt as they close together, with Fujinaka ducking low and taking most of them across the upper back. Rights setting up left hooks for Byambatsogt as Fujinaka dives in repeatedly behind an up-jab from his forehead, maintaining a peekaboo guard. Fujinaka is blasted onto the ropes by a series of power shots and turns his back, causing Byambatsogt to score a late hit behind the head as the ref is signaling a reset. The ref lectures Byambatsogt to be careful but doesn't issue a deduction. Time in. Byambatsogt is dancing in and stretching his jab out past Fujinaka's, then pivoting to his left and strapping a downward-trajectory left hook across the cheekbone and upper jawline of Fujinaka while simultaneously leaning away from the Fujinaka right cross to ride & mitigate it. Fujinaka burrows in close looking for body shots and is pried off with an uppercut. Wild left hook by Fujinaka jumping in, slick matador turn by Byambatsogt.

    10-9 Byambatsogt

    Round 2

Byambatsogt is jabbing the chest and throat of Fujinaka, bringing up the forearms defensively, opening a lane for Byambatsogt now to jab the belly and poke at it with long torpedo rights while bowing partway forward on the outside. Fujinaka is able to catch Byambatsogt's arm, pulling him into a clinch and whacking him on the side of the head with a free hand until the ref orders a break. The same thing happens in the next sequence as they close together. Fujinaka ducks a right hand while going for a body shot but stumbles off balance and nearly falls onto his side before steadying himself with a squat and winging his arms out to either side. Fujinaka with lots of nervous energy on the outside, seemingly eager to get up close for the rough infighting that has brought him the most success. He is able to do so, but is shaken off and pelted with combos from Byambatsogt, half-thrown and half-flurried into the ropes, bouncing off them and onto the canvas.

    10-9 Byambatsogt

    20-18 Byambatsogt

    Round 3

Byambatsogt is moving counter-clockwise and keenly slipping Fujinaka jabs while doing precision crochet work on the face of Fujinaka with his own jab and 1-2. Byambatsogt is putting on a footwork clinic now, denying Fujinaka the chance to get in range to hold & hit or land body shots. Byambatsogt is using expert, subtle and economical head and foot movement to never let Fujinaka's jab touch him. Check hooks now from Byambatsogt, getting a little overly fancy and nearly tripping over his own feet. Fujinaka throws a couple of straight punches on the way in and follows through on them until bodily crashing into Byambatsogt, lumping a few rights into his ribs in the clinch. Fujinaka has a bloody nose. Byambatsogt continues to pierce him with the 1-2 between the gloves and play keep-away very effectively.

    10-9 Byambatsogt

    30-27 Byambatsogt

    Round 4

Byambatsogt steps in with a few jabs and then leads Fujinaka on a goose hunt around the perimeter, slowing down slightly as he nears the corners, a ruse, causing Fujinaka to rush in only to find him no longer there. Fujinka closes in enough to grab and spin Byambatsogt into the ropes, finally. Another clinch and some thumping underhanded slaps by Fujinaka. Byambatsogt is able to arch his neck and make Fujinaka miss a triple jab eve while spiraling in close to him, and tapping him with left hooks on the face and rights on the body. Fujinaka getting clocked with hooks at medium-long range, swiveling his skull on its axle. Fujinaka tirelessly pursuing Byambatsogt around the ring, but not able to mount any meaningful offense given the Mongolian novice's mercurial and graceful fluidity.

    10-9 Byambatsogt

    40-36 Byambatsogt

    Round 5

Byambatsogt meets Fujinaka in the middle of the ring, feeding out the first jab and then hooking off it, but is soon backed up nearly into the ropes by Fujinaka plowing in, bent forward, nose to the grindstone winging big body shots. They entangle numerous times, with Fujinaka's right arm getting wedged in Byambatsogt's left armpit but each man continuing to fire with the opposite hand. Fujinaka having a surge in confidence, looping big rights into the body as Byambatsogt is circling and landing a few. Byambatsogt drops anchor to lob a 1-2 into the face, but quickly uproots and resumes moving. Fujinaka presses in and ducks a hook, ending up in a spinning headlock. The ref has the ring physician check out Fujinaka's cut. Time in. Byambatsogt steps in with a stiff power jab, then springs off to his left and starts to veer diagonally outside before rocketing in again to land another dissuading jab. Fujinaka reaches out with jabs, chasing, and then loads up and overhand right, but only gets it slung around Byambatsogt's left arm in a clinch, during which Byambatsogt pushes him up against the ropes to nullify his rally.

10-9 Byambatsogt, closest of the bout and only round I could see going to Fujinaka.

    50-45 Byambatsogt

    Official cards:

    Yuji Fukuchi 49-46
    Nobuhiro Matsubara 50-45
    Michiaki Someya 49-46

    UD for Byambatsogt

@Boxing Prospect's RBR for Byambatsogt vs. Báez:

    Final bout
    Vladimir Baez (26-5-2, 24) v Tuguldur Byambatsogt (1-0)
Another Knock Out Dynamite Tournament final...

Mongolian guy was apparently a VERY good amateur
Baez, aka Destino Japan, is a Japanese based Dominican puncher, dangerous as hell in this type of format

1-Byambatsogt looking to maintain distance and using a nice jab and good footwork, Baez struggling to get close, very nice from the Mongolian who looks a genuine talent very well schooled and neutralising Baez easily, as he did to Shusaku Fujinaka last time out.

Baez seemed to have a little problem with his leg as he went to the corner

Byambatsogt has "Money", "Floyd" and "Mayweather" (editor's note: that is, printed on his trunks)

2-Baez trying to move into a different gear but Byambatsogt continues doing what he did in round 1, moving, jabbing, showing the basics of boxing, Byambatsogt warned for not breaking by Binney Martin, nice body shot from Byambatsogt,

You get the feeling Byambatsogt doesn't know if he can take Baez's power, but he's not interested in finding out either...

    2-0 Byambatsogt

3-More of the same, Baez struggling to get close, chasing his man with little success and being pegged by jabs, a big right cross from Byambatsogt, and a nice counter straight as well, Binney Martin tells both guys off for minor fouls, all the pressure is from Baez but Byambatsogt neutralising it with his footwork and upper body movement, another good body shot from Byambatsogt, Baez lands a left hook but fails to follow up, Martin threatening to take a point from Byambatsogt - needs to do something to help the adopted local

    3-0

4-Again much of the same, Byambatsogt looks to be slowing just a touch, but Baez isn't getting any quicker himself, a right from Baez lands, Byambatsogt on the retreat and nothing coming from him, a nice jab, and a right from Byambatsogt, a lovely counter by Byambatsogt

    Erm...you know...Byambatsogt might have actually stole that...but I'll be nice 3-1 Byambatsogt

5-Baez likely to throw the kitchen sink at Byambatsogt here, big right up top and a body shot from Byambatsogt, Baez given a "next time I'm taking a point" warning, Byambatsogt warned for pushing down on Baez's back, a big left hook from Byambatsogt , Baez reaching, and another left hook from Byambatsogt, Baez marches forward but no success, another sweeping left hook from Byambatsogt, Baez down-slip, right-left from Byambatsogt, and he unloads down goes Baez! Baez is hurt! He's up but hurt, Byambatsogt with a right hand, Baez down again-slip

Byambatsogt celebrates as we go to the bell

This kid the real deal...not fan friendly, but what a natural talent

    UD - Byambatsogt
    48ー46
    49ー45×2

Fingers crossed he doesn't vanish into the ether as Byambatsogt has the potential to do big things, already has 2 solid wins on away turf

There you go, ten rounds into his pro career, against opposition that is highly atypical for a debut & sophomore bout - and there have only been two he maybe could have lost. :deal:

Huh...so he did actually knock Báez down (and just read the RBR to confirm - had only skimmed before and seen the slip mentioned and missed the second, legit KD). So how the hell did one judge have a final score of 49-45? They would've needed to not score that a 10-8..

@Boxing Prospect did Báez otherwise dominate the round in which he got dropped or something?

It doesn't actually rhyme with Hodor - the standard non-diacritic transliteration is with three u's - Tug-ul-dur. But

Have you checked out the Fujinaka match? His style is definitely suited to my tastes more than yours (similarly to Bivol) and yet surely you can recognize the skillz. Especially for being 20yo and 2-0.

Japanese judges ain't against scoring 10-10 rounds, suspect a judge had a 10-10 in there somewhere, but I've not seen a copy of the master cards yet.

    From boxmob
"Battsogut, returning to the waiting room, said, "I struck a jab to keep my distance because I had a cold and injured my right thumb. I took down, but I didn't want the prize because I didn't aim for the prize. "I was pleased with the victory. "I want to continue working hard and aiming for the world," he said."
