That video just shows have easy Vitali is to cut. That was a arm punch that ripped his eye open. Klitschko cut to damn easy.
There is no way his thumb was actually sticking out inside the glove when he threw and landed that punch, it would have been broken. Legal punch.
Legal punch. Vitali was called pizza face for a reason after this. His face was covered in cuts, where Lewis had butchered his face all over; not just in one place but covered. Hence the pizza analogy: pizza tend to be covered in tomato sauce and other stuff.
I'd call it an unintentional thumb. - As opposed to all the blatantly intentional thumbs Vitali threw into Charr's face years later. No comparison.
I ain't watched that fight in fukkin years, and now I remember why. Historical significance aside, there really is nothing that special 'bout it. What's the big deal, and why are folks still so obsessed with it? Lewis won, cleanish and fairly. What woulda happened if the fight hadn't been stopped? Well the question's pointless...the rules are the rules. Lennox knew that the cut gave him his best chance of winning. Did that give him the heart to put in the extra effort over the later few rounds? Who knows? Would he have gassed if the fight hadn't been stopped? Who knows? Did Vitali put in the last of his effort in 5-6 knowing that it might get stopped soon - who the fukk knows. People saying Vitali woulda lost his eye or summit probably exaggerate, or don't know how much punishment the human body can take. He wouldda had some splendid scarring, and it woulda been a disgusting spectacle, but historically fighters have experienced far worse facial injuries. Without a doubt the fight shoulda been stopped tho, unless we want boxing to be a blood sport. Vitali was looking best in the first few rounds 'til he got the cut. Lennox started looking better after Vitali got cut (course he landed well enough to cause the injury in the first place, tho) - but, around those facts, the reasons for how the fight went are entirely open to conjecture. It is what it is. Watching the fight again though mainly reminded me that way too many HW fights end up looking, once the excitement of the moment has passed, a little like a pair drunks slugging in slow motion outside a bar.
Agreed with smegmaa. However, I don't think that Lewis would've knocked Vitali down, most likely Vitali's corner would've stopped the fight. Either way a win for Lewis. But assuming the cut never took place, Lewis would get knocked out inside 6-7 rounds in my opinion.
Vitali had his chance and he lost, woulda, coulda, shoulda, if he was beating his ass he shouldn't have stopped. Vitali spent those rounds running away and hitting, they were close but I am being generous giving them to Vitali. Really and truly had lennox had that killer instinct Vitali would last no more than 2. Becuase once lennox stopped joking around he destroyed vitali. If Lennox almost had a heart attack in round 5 what does that tell you? A fat guy who almost had a heart attack destroyed Vitali. Now imagine what that fat guy would do if he was at his best :hi:
