Discuss. Vitali was clearly winning the fight, 58-56 on all the scorecards. Cuts stoppage. Lewis is the only ATG he has ever faced and Vitali, although he lost, he had an amazing showing against him and could have easily knocked Lewis out if the fight had continued. Lewis stumped to the stool at the end of r6, and Vitali was also looking half dead after 6 rounds. Lewis was at the very tail end of his career even though he claimed that he was at the pinnacle of his powers before the fight. He came to the fight fat/undertrained and managed to TKO him at 37. Vitali went on to become undefeated for 10 years and rarely ever lost any rounds. So guys, whose resume was boosted more?
Lennox Lewis defeated every man he faced Vitali Klitschko can still seek revenge rematches Lennox Lewis is the last Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko can still try to be the first Undisputed Champion since Lewis Hope this helps :conf
Other than your assertion that Vitali was CLEARLY winning (58-56 isn't all that clear to me, and Lederman did have it a tie) aside the fight benefited Lewis more than Vitali, because it showed how determined Lewis was to win. Lewis did win the 6th round of the fight on all the scorecards so this assertion he was 1/2 dead doesn't hold up. Vitali should have finished Lewis in the 2nd round, that was his moment to seize and he never got it done. It's too bad the doctors stopped the fight, otherwise it would have been Lewis stopping the fight with an upper cut.
Lewis would off course have stopped Vitali inside the NeXT two rounds. Vitali was dead tired, hurt and it was obvious Lewis like the legit ATG he is,was coming on strong. Vitali was good, but nowhere near a true great like Lewis.
Beating a prime Vitali is the best win on Lennox' resume. Losing to Lennox is the best thing on Vitali's resume. Both men's resumes gained tremendously from the fight.
I believe Lewis's win over Vitali is easily his best win so it boosts Lewis cv the most. Who would be Lewis's second best win? Old blown up cw Holyfield perhaps a decade past his best? I think that confirms it really.
Vitali. His resume is that bad that a competitive loss to an old Lewis boosts his resume more than it does to Lewis.
Plus Vitali would of been studying LL for years with a future fight in mind where as LL barely new who he was.
It helps both in a way. I dont doubt that a prime lewis would have beat vitali in a far better manner. But then vitali displayed amazing toughness losing on cuts some of the bombs both guys took (especially that uppercut) were outragious. Nothing wrong with the lewis chin
