I could go on boxrec but he one fighter I never really followed. What sort of style did he have? Was he exciting? Did he draw the crowds? All that kind if jazz. Cheers lads
Of all the good domestic LMW fighters, he's the only one who took that step up and fought world class opposition, but got schooled by Daniel Santos, although he did put him on his ass. Good fighter, good athlete and was in exciting fights, always throwing shots and going for the KO win. Possibly will be best remembered for getting KTFO by Wayne Alexander, althought unlike Hatton, he can claim he was winning that second round by a country mile lol
I know, I saw that live on SS2 i think it was, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, cos Alexander was getting ****ed up and he came up with that shot out of nowhere.
Very debatable whether Martinez was considered world class when he fought Williams. Esp the first time.
Im certain that Alexander was playing possum during that second round he ducks down from the bodyshot pretending to be hurt in order for Takaloo to open up and then unloads his own bomb.
Do we count that as stepping up into world class? Or just not realizing how good the guy was going to turn out to be?:huh
He held the WBU welter and light-middle titles and never really made the step-up into world class. I'd put him fringe Euro-level, although he could never fight for that title of course. I'm surprised to see him comeback, I thought he looked completely finished when he lost to Anthony Small in his final fight. It will be interesting to see what he actually has left after three years of inactivity, but i presume that Matchroom will make him fight a 4-rounder first as they've done with the come-backing boxers previously...
I was at the velodrome in manchester when he fought arnie farnell just before hatton was due on against jason rowland. The place was buzzing full of mancs and then Tak goes and ko's Farnell in the first round, cue absolute mayhem, think at one point farnells dad was trying to get at takaloo to have a fight with him, crazy!!
