Tarver must use his boxing skills against Green to beat him

    by Jason Kim - Boxing News 24 - July 11th 2011

Antonio Tarver (28-6, 19 KO’s) is facing a slugger on July 20th when he fights International Boxing Organization (IBO) cruiserweight champion Danny Green (31-3, 27 KO’s) at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

Tarver has been facing mostly boxer/punchers in the past six years. The last time that Tarver faced a slugger was when he lost a 12 round decision against Glen Johnson in 2005. Tarver had problems with Johnson’s pressure and power shots in that fight and eventually got wore down in the later rounds.

Green will likely be trying to the same thing with Tarver in taking the fight to him and trying to bomb him out. Green has had good luck in destroying most of his opponents recently. However, Tarver is not the kind of guy that you can take out easily because he has a great chin and an excellent jab. He’s going to be boxing Green and making it hard on him to land his shots.

Tarver can’t get in a war with Green and try to beat him at his own game because that’s not likely to work. Green wants his opponents to trade big shots with him, because he knows that he’s going to win those wars most of the time because of his power. But where Green has problems is when his opponents box him.

If you look at Green’s loss to Anthony Mundine in 2006, he wasn’t able to land his big shots because Mundine was sticking and moving. Tarver will have to do the same thing as Mundine by shooting a jab into the face of Green and making him eat those shots all night long.

I get the feeling tarver is down here on holidays and to earn a cool million. Hope im wrong and he has something left.

Tweeted the other day he was having a nice lunch at bondi icebergs and today he was taking a walk around the opera house.

Someone tell him he's got a fight next week....
