In this case, I think he'd do it. But in general not very much. What it does show, is that he has considered that other contries exist and I'm pretty sure we can admit it's a start.
Dawson's team have said he would fight Calzaghe in the UK. All we have to go on is his word since Calzaghe hasn't shown any interest to fight him. The Tarver fight is due to a rematch clause. HBO obviously didn't have to pick it up, but they are trying to get Chad exposure on their airwaves and hopefully pave the way for Dawson/Calzaghe or Dawson/Hopkins. Dawson has managed his career masterfully so far.
What makes anyone thinks this fight will be different from the first one. Dawson by Decision or late TKO. Tarver big ass mouth is done - he can't back up **** he says now. B-Hop took everything out of him.
Good post. Dawson would fight Calzaghe in the U.K in a minute. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably doesn't understand much about the business aspect of the sport.
For one Dawson already called out Calzaghe and offered to fight him in Wales. Two, he has to stay active and three, Tarver elected the rematch clause since he was the champ wen he lost so he is entitled to a rematch. Quit hatin on the man.
The only reason there was a rematch clause for the Dawson v Tarver fight is that Dawson junked his title, had nowhere else to go except Tarver, and had to go into the fight as challenger and therefore accept clauses like that. In the same time period as fighting Tarver twice he could have instead fought Diaconu once and Tarver once (where he'd be in a far stronger negotiating position for a unification match so wouldn't need to agree to any such clauses). By going the second route he would have earned more money (he was offered more for Diaconu than he got for fighting Tarver), would have two titles instead of one title, would have at least the same profile as he will after two fights against Tarver in the US and a bigger profile internationally and would have gained valuable experience of fighting outside his comfort zone and dealing with a hostile crowd which would serve him well if he ever did get a fight like Calzaghe in Cardiff. How does going the first route instead, earning less, squandering both a title and an opportunity to raise his profile constitute 'masterful' handling of his career?
He turned down Diaconu to fight Tarver for less, so I'm not sure we can take that as cut and dried. For Dawson to get Calzaghe in Cardiff would require Calzaghe getting paid a very large amount of money. If Dawson wants the fight he probably can't expect to earn all that much relatively speaking. I'm not at all convinced that you can make that unequivocal statement.
I think the Khan v MAB card on the same day is gonna be available on ppv in the USA for $25. Much more meaningful boxing matches on that card then Dawson v Tarver II
