Reminds me of the story about Atlas holding a gun to Tysons head for messing with Teddys sister in law.
Teddy Atlas is my dude! One of the LAST real Boxing dudes in Boxing. The kind of guy with about as much wrong as right, but at the end of the day? You still respect the dude. Teddy will always be alright with me.
I was at the Walker arena in Muskegon because I was a fan of Augustus from seeing him dismantle and humiliate Alex Truijello, was rated 6th or 7th by Ring Magazine and because a good buddy of mine, Rocky Smith was fighting Anwaur Oshana. Rocky won and ended up losing to Allen Green, but I digress. I was a senior in high school and I brought two buddies along and we were two rows back from Teddy and Joe and maybe ten seats to the right and I remember the whole crowd was cheering Augustus by the end. Everyone was crying bull**** when Augustus didn't get credit for a legit knockdown and then when the bull**** point was taken and then at the end the three of us just went balistic. We could tell Teddy was losing his mind and we tried to get closer to hear what he was saying but we didn't find out till we got home and saw the tape. ****ing hooting and hollering for Teddy. Needless to say I had to show up and watch Augustus beat the **** out of Burton in the rematch. Crazy crazy night of boxing.
Wow! More people should do this! I'm actually surprised that with all the efforts the fighters are putting into a fight preparation and the fight itself, that a boxer never attacked one of the judged for bad judging....or scuse me...corruption! It must be frustating as hell to get robbed! Good job on this one Teddy!
A note from the Department of Karma: Burton was KOed in his next 4 fights. A note from the Department of Boxing: After being KOed 4 times in a row, and 5 times out of 6 fights, Burton was awarded a shot at the INBA Welterweight Title and won.
Everyone can say all the negative **** they want about Teddy. Sure sometimes he has horrible old school analogies in his telecasts, but he's a old school guy. But one thing you can't deny about Teddy, is he loves our sport, and is passionate about it. And that alone is enough for me to respect the man.
