Yeah. I think what it is with his style, he tries to draw you into mid range, and only really lets his hands go in combination when you try to attack/come across that killzone, which is why I felt he had so much trouble against Mayweather, Mayweather was able to stay on the periphery of that killzone and peck and poke at him with singles from out the outside because he is longer than Marquez, which is one of the reasons he picked up few counters off Mayweather's offense. Although that might be referring more to that old Marquez, before he become more aggressive.
I'd still favour Mayweather by close decision. As much as I've backed Manny from Oscar onwards to win these fights I'd stop short here. Manny does have the work-rate and the offense but as well all know great counterpunchers and movers that can keep on the outside can cut work-rate in half. He could frustrate Manny that way and draw mistakes. Also the lead right hand would work a treat. Got remember while Manny has been looking a phenom, he´s fought a lot of foes that come to fight with him. He's not really faced up to his kryptonite post-Marquez.
Yes. Manny needs to show he can take the lead, set up his own offense against a counter puncher, and still win.
Judah is a totally different kind of Southpaw to Pacquiao. Mayweather would not throw the type of punches he threw against Judah against Pac, because of the style difference between Judah-Pac. Judah knows how to take away your jab and make you have to exclusively resort to throwing left hook, right hands, but Mayweather wont do that against Pac, cause Pac as a southpaw, does not the wrinkles to his game that Judah has as a counter puncher, nor the defense. If Pac allows Mayweather to back him up, he will be making a huge! mistake, cause Mayweather will control him from behind the stick and counter punch him off the front foot, make no mistake about it, if Manny allows Mayweather to back him up, he is in big trouble. You saw the success Cotto had by waiting on Pacuaio, counter punching him off the front foot, and Cotto aint no where near as good as Mayweather, plus, Mayweather has reach advantage. If Manny allows Mayweather to seize control of centre ring, he will never get it back, and he will! get dominated imo.
Pacquiao's record is reaching epic proportions. If he beat Mayweather you'd have to say he's a cast iron top 10 ATG.
Pacquaio clearly has to rate above Mayweather at this stage in relation to historical importance in the sport and his position in an all time great list. No real argument exists for Mayweather to be ahead of him IMO. For the record though i think Mayweather at 130 was a better fighter than manny has ever been. In relation to who would win a fight between them, thats a totally different matter. If or when they fight the key to the fight for me is how much has Mayweather footwork deteriorated. Against Mosley we all know he fought pretty much flat footed, against pacquaio that won't work. Pacquiao would overwhelm him with angles and workrate and floyd i can't see being able to win in that mode. However if this was a plot to deal with mosley and not signs of issues with footwork and he's still able to keep moving the fight is far more difficult for pac. He was not enjoying it when cotto was moving in there fight, cotto wasn't winning rounds but he was upsetting pacquaio. Mayweather far more adept at moving and countering off the back foot than cotto. If he countering and moving this gives pacquiao much less time to set his attacks like he has been able to against margo, clotttey etc who where flat footed in front of him and allowing him to load up and thrown with ease. Also it will likely lower pacquaio workrate. If mayweather can keep on the move successfully i think he will eak out a decision, probably around 7-5. Pacquaio will be open for mayweather right hand, he always is open for the shot and mayweather is good enough defensively to deal with pac opening attacks and then look to get back moving. Pacquaio would begin to get frustrated by this and make more errors when he does try and corner floyd which a counter puncher like mayweather lives for. If mayweather cannot keep the movement up though i think he would lose pretty clearly, too much leather coming at him and he would drop a decision on workrate alone if he not able to keep on his toes.
I'm converted. Mayweather loses most of the respect he's garnered in his career if he bails this one again next year,
pacquiao is already an all time great. if he beats mayweather then he reaches the true elite of robinson and henry armstrong. the problem with today is we're used to reading about greats such as armstrong, and we don't believe that could happen in our era, but here we have our own armstrong. personally i regard pacquiao better than armstrong.
Becaue he does the shoulder roll. People love to wank over that shoulder roll. Seriously, I can only write you a long essay on why Pac is better.
unlike Cotto and Margarito, Floyd can actually counterpunch. those counters are sharp enough to jolt Pac
What I meant on Marquez was that by being an offensive fighter who also has counter punching ability, awesome timing AND resilience, he had more oppurtunities to land. Floyd won't take these chances, and won't get all the action in that Marquez got in that made those contests so exciting and close. None of the bigger his have had Marquezs ability: Floyd has, but as I say, the shoulder roll might protect him but it will see him swarmed over moreso than Marquez, who stood his ground and, of course by doing so, buckled Pac big time in their second fight, which by the way Gooners, I scored to Marquez 115-112. Floyd will not be active enough. As the fight goes on and he realises that, unlike Hatton, Judah and Mosley, that Pac isn't slowing down, he'll suffer even more IMO. I don't see why Floyd is seen as being able to make these famous adjustments; a lot of his opponents have been very one dimensional and one-paced. PAC is certainly not the latter, and, whilst completely one dimensional in his famous featherweight battles, has so much more to his game than Floyds recent opposition. On paper, Floyd is a nightmare stylistic matchup forManny. Floyd is not the sum of his parts IMO, he gets kudos for what is not that impressive a resume littered with uninspirng performances.
We'll just have to wait and see if it happens Flea. I'll gladly give you props if Pac takes him. I just don't see it personally. I think Floyd will win somewhat convincingly. At least it gives us something exciting to look forward to if the fight happens!:good
