Terence Crawford announces retirement

An obviously talented guy who is leaving at a good time (I still would of liked him to fight Bivol) but he's 38, it's only going to go downhill from here more than likely. He has a couple of really great accomplishments (the multiple undisputeds, the jump up to beat Canelo, the Spence destruction) some of which he was in the right place right time to be able to do it, but fair to him he executed on his chances. And to be fair, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time for missed opportunities, some by his choice (re-signing with Arum is the one I keep thinking of) and some not (the avoidance of some contemporaries and their promoters, the lack of talent in certain divisions). I do wish he would of fought more, especially at 154 where it's boxings hottest division. I do think his resume is a bit lacking for the reasons mentioned, but a very good fighter regardless.

 

In the HBO documentary, Oscar's children talked about how embarrassing some of the things he did were for them. Guy hasn't learned a damn thing or improved on his antics. If anything, he's doubled down on his bull**** across the board. He's a manchild.

Reading this thread, I absolutely understand why boxing is dying and a guy like Jake Paul can be successful. Bunch of haters who never accomplished anything in life and wouldn't be able to do 10 straight pull ups if their life depended on it.

 

Let’s see him reign. My one criticism of usyk is he doesn’t have longevity….can be any of the top 15 but it would be good to see if he can reign and for how long without making a big error or losing discipline. Doesn’t have to be big names just a variety of ppl and styles.

I thought he was the quiet type until i saw his selfie video from a car. He might still be that, but money and fame changes some people's outlook and perspective on life

 

That’s the game really. Hence do few undefeated guy who have had long testing careers. As a fan, I never want to see a guy retire undefeated and on top, it feels early. Which may be better for their health, but so is not entering a boxing gym.


Crawford doesn’t have to move up a weight class. Just continue being a champ at the current one and dominate the division, not just dominate the guy who almost dominated the division (didn’t fight db)

 

A one-fight-per-year schedule is semi-retirement anyway.
I don't care if he fights again or not. He's been semi-retired for several years now.
