:good Cheers mate. I know he's ambidextrous. Fought Prescott as a Southpaw after starting our orthodox IIRC. I hear what you mean about Prescott. He was shopworn by the time Terence came in and it was a awful fight for Breidis to take on short notice. Although i do believe the Prescott that fought Crawford was a more developed and thoughtful box-fighter then the man that faced Mitchell but i do believe Mitchell faced a more dangerous foe that night as Prescott back then was crude, reckless and raw and had speed and power (4 round fighter IMO) and that rawness made him a much tougher test then the guy who got schooled by Crawford. I think Crawford's a better southpaw then orthodox boxer from what i've seen although from what i've seen he starts off orthodox. I'm really looking forward to this fight, I think he's got some lovely skills and little habits you don't see as much nowdays such a hands open in the gloves and pivots beautifully. But lot of hidden qualities we haven't seen from him. Those inner qualities that make you a champion. March we shall see if he's a pretender or the real deal.
Don't get me wrong mate, I like Prescott, little known fact around here I picked him to beat Alvarado ALMOST had it The problem though was after a KO defeat I don't think Prescott was the go for broke monster he used to be, he really looked a shell against Crawford, not that he was shot, but being stopped took a lot of his prior confidence away IMO You are right, Crawford did show a lot of subtle skills, but the question is, did they flatter him against Prescott or is he that good? Judging by his Klimov performance, he still isn't quite sure of himself, suffers from confidence problems from my judgement, maybe that was why he switched against Prescott, to prove to himself more than anyone else if he could actually use his skills. Klimov is fragile from what I've seen, and Crawford just didn't want to look for the stoppage. Smart, or holding back? I'm not so sure Crawford is the "hunter" as his nickname suggests or just a very talented guy with confidence issues who may be found out in a tough fight at top level ala Mitchell The Scottish crowd will show us a lot about Crawford depending on how he reacts to it People picking Crawford doesn't bother me, but people just automatically writing Burns off I find pretty insulting, Crawford is yet to be truly tested, Burns at his best will provide that and then some ala Paulus Moses/ Kevin Mitchell fight Let's hope he can recover that form
I do wonder about Crawford starting out orthodox and then switching to southpaw. Hagler was doing similar towards latter stages of his career (Mugabi/Leonard). I don't think he's doing it for the same reasons but i wonder if he thinks ''this would be easier as a lefty i will switch''. More awkward and compact as a lefty I'm not sure the starting orthodox is a premeditated thing. I could be wrong.. I have a feeling you're right about finding himself as a fighter. I think he's still trying to find his skillset. We've seen Broner try emulate things and not get it down pat. So when the pace is high it means these unnatural things don't happen naturally. Broner vs Maidana being a prime example of a fighter not knowing what to do in a high pressure situation. Noticed when Prescott actually threw some punches in combination he landed. Now if Crawford starts orthodox in fights is he working more as a southpaw or a orthodox or trying to work on both in the gym?. The early rounds will be massive in this fight IMO. Burns needs to get back into groove and will need that success (getting range early, jab & hooking off jab), Crawford will want to settle early and find his openings and success early to settle himself. If Burns unsettles Crawford early then he's got a great chance. You can't let stylists settle into a pattern and rhythm. If Crawford settles i got a feeling he won't be to fussed with the jeers and boos. That will be music to his ears and he will look to take the sting out of the fight totally and slow it right down.
All about that jab IMO, against Beltran before the jaw break he was landing but he looked very very eager to impress and started throwing pretty wildly, if he just sticks and measures the distance, he can time Crawford down as long as he doesn't chase him, Crawford is not naturally aggressive but if Burns falls in behind his jab he can eat counters. What I'm looking for is Burns to jab from the outside, throw a few long rights (without falling in behind them) just to get Crawfords attention, hopefully back him up against the ropes and unload with those 6-7 punch combos to head and body then back off, reset, repeat. Something that has been missing for a while with Burns, is patience.
I tend to agree. I think hooking off the jab will be a key punch. Burns has a good ability to do that.
Intriguing though, you mention Burns hooking off the jab Mandana, remember the Earl fight? counter hooks won him that fight, ditto Katsidis, when was the last time we saw Burns that sharp? I think it's all down to the form of Burns, top form Burns beats top form Crawford 8-4 IMO
Great minds etc.. I think Burns loses sadly mate because of what you said. Form has declined and he's suffered a nasty injury. Think Crawford catches him at the right time personally.. Crawford moving away from Burns and picking his moments on route to a points win.
I'm aware he has the skills to do a Jose Gonzalez on him, but I just know in my heart that Burns still has a few great performances left in him, I think Crawford may actually be the guy who makes Ricky look GOOD Or maybe it's the beer talking, but you can hold me to that mate
Gonzalez is the blueprint fight for Crawford. Little half steps and side steps and sliding and pivoting out of range. Straight punches etc.. But if anyone can Ricky can. Merry Christmas bro :good.
Calm down there pal. Ricky has a trainer, not unless your trying to steal him from Billy with your tactics? Don't get me wrong it is a great plan, but i see you have changed your tune because now you say Crawford can do a job on Ricky, but before you jumped on my back because i said Ricky's got a live one in front of him in Crawford? I cant help, but get the feeling your just a pissed of Kevin Mitchell fan who doesn't plan on giving Burns any credit if he beats Crawford because your still upset Ricky bashed your boy up in 4 rounds? I say that Because you keep badgering on about Mitchell's win over Prescott is better than Crawfords when it is completely irrelevant to this debate. I know you have been studying Crawford BEFORE everybody else, but iv'e seen him as well and every time i seen him he knew what he was doing. I mean he was in total control and looked like a pimp in with a b!tch every time. Crawford is a good fighter and i remember recently other relatively unknown Americans like Tim Bradley and Austin Trout who fought in obscurity before their title fights. As for your comment that Crawford isn't as good as Broner... I'm not so sure because at least he has his own style. Another thing just because he does a bit of switching doesn't mean he isn't confident. At least he isn't imitating somebody else because if he was, then i would be concerned that he isn't confident. As i said before i cant help, but get the feeling you don't plan on giving Ricky credit if he wins and you will say I TOLD YOU SO Crawford was nothing. But the exact same thing has happened before with Ricky when he fought Martinez, Katsidis and your boy Mitchell, the so called favorite huh!
Jose Gonzalez still lost I never jumped on your back I'm a pissed off Mitchell fan? Then you really don't know me at all You've jumped to a big conclusion there mate
I have a good relationship with Billy and considering I was one of the few to pick Burns to beat Katsidis (you can find the public poll results somewhere in this forum), you may want to subtract your statement about me being some sort of bitter Mitchell fan who doesn't want to give Burns credit Oh and naturally, I picked Burns to beat Mitchell of course Why don't you ask Pitythefool? Or Mandanda? Or even Craney? All I've ever done is stick up for Burns and I am a huge Burns fan, you can see that in this thread, seeing as you're relatively new, I'll forgive your ignorance As for Crawford, he's looked like a pimp in with a *****, yeah, because his competition has been ****, like I said, his best win before Prescott was Andres Gorges, a D level fighter, not hard to look like a pimp against that opposition Best wins: faded Breidis Prescott, coming off a KO defeat, B- win KO Alejandro Sanabria: a nobody with a padded record, hard to even rate him, I'd go C level win Andriy Klimov: featherduster puncher with a weak chin but a pretty record, good matchmaking to make Crawford look good, John Molina should have had him out of there, C level win None of these wins even come close to say, Broners win over Rees Kevin Mitchell has a better record than Crawford schooled prime Breidis Prescott, practical shutout: A level win KO Ignazio Mendoza in 2: B level win considering Mendozas track record Undefeated European champion John Murray, KO 8: B+ win KO 6 Walter Estrada in Atlantic city: C level win at the time KO 9 Carl Johanneson: Johanneson held a win over Burns, flooring him heavily 3 times in the process and was on decent form, B win Felix Lora: very very tough Journeyman, has a recent win over Serhiy Fedchenko. Disciplined performance from Mitchell, knocking Lora down yet boxing his way to an easy UD, Lora has taken no less than SEVEN prospects 0s, even knockling out 15-0 Italian prospect Massimiliano Ballisai out cold in 4 rounds, C win The reason I keep bringing up Mitchell is simple, he has every single skill Crawford has (other than switchhitting, which he should not try against Burns), and IMO better power and better resume, yet look what Burns did to him
